Today's ATI blogging adventure leads me back to the dynamic display options through using aticonfig. While the ATI Dynamic Display Management Options (DDMO) don't look like they will be officially supported by the ATI Linux drivers until next month, they have been contained in the Linux drivers since 8.25.18. For showing off this support (since the Radeon X1000 series still lack Linux TV-out support) a Lenovo X300 laptop was used along with a standard TV NTSC and 17-inch LCD display.
To show the versatility (and ultimately the number of possibilities) with the ATI Linux Dynamic Display Management Options, a video was recorded with the --query-monitor and --enable-monitor in action. One of the current limitations of the DDMO features is the limited functionality with the DDMO features when using Big Desktop, and the enabled monitors being in clone mode. The technology is also limiting as presently only two display devices can be enabled. For example, you cannot use two LCDs and a TV simultaneously at this time. I would anticipate that ATI will further extend the dynamic display management options in upcoming driver releases. The video is in Ogg Theora format and is compressed to weigh in just under 10MB.
