Yesterday a new Sauerbraten release was introduced, which does bring to the table several new features for open-source gamers. Sauerbraten 2006-06-11 is an open-source FPS/RPG game engine, which is commonly referred to as "Cube 2". With this new release, I decided to try out Sauerbraten 2006-06-11 for a few minutes this afternoon. The open-source game performed great, and had ran fine with ATI's fglrx drivers. The frame-rate had dropped in some areas of the games, but overall the performance -- both quantitative and qualitative -- was suitable. After Sauerbraten's previous release in early May, I had coincidentally spoke with Kurt Kesler (who is a mapper for Sauerbraten) about the ATI performance. Kurt had stated that the developers are currently working on addressing ATI performance problems though most of the developers use NVIDIA products.
