Image Quality

Posted by Michael Larabel on Day 04 (June 04, 2006)

Prior to removing the NVIDIA GeForce 7800GTX, I had run some performance tests to both measure the frame-rate capabilities of the card as well as the image quality (more on this to come in future posts). In this post are four uncompressed images comparing the image quality of the NVIDIA GeForce 7800GTX against the ATI Radeon X1800XT. The in-game settings remained the same during these tests, and no additional settings were enabled/disabled from the drivers. Two images are from Enemy Territory while the other two are with Doom 3. Click on the thumbnails below for the full uncompressed version of the images. The red title bar in the below images signify the X1800XT portion while the green signifies NVIDIA. While nothing definitive can be gathered from the images with the human-eye, judging from what I have come across so far in various Linux-native games, the ATI X1800XT looks to have the advantage under Linux with the image quality -- though I will comment more on this later.
