Libinput 1.9 Is Around The Corner With New Features

Peter Hutterer of Red Hat has announced the first release candidate of libinput 1.9, the input handling library now widely used by both Wayland and X11 Linux systems.

Among the changes with libinput 1.9 include:

- The Autotools build system support has been dropped completely in favor of exclusively supporting the Meson build system. Meson with Ninja yields faster build times and other benefits.

- Support for touchpads that use pressure-based palm detection.

- Touchpads now ignore extra fingers while the pointer-controlling finger is moving.

- Other touchpad handling improvements.

- Reworked acceleration for trackpoints / pointing sticks.

- Debouncing is now automagically applied to pointer devices.

- The tablet-mode switch on hybrid laptops and tablets now disables the touchpad / trackpoint / internal keyboard to avoid fake touches.

- Various bug fixes and more.
