If you are a student and reading Phoronix, chances are you have an interest in Linux graphics, so what better way to get involved than via GSoC? The updated list of possible 2017 project ideas can be found via this X.Org Wiki page.
Among the possible project ideas for GSoC 2017 are improvements to APITrace, improving Mesa with greater VDPAU state tracker improvements, using Tizonia rather than Bellagio in the OpenMAX state tracker, soft double-precision FP support, a replacement to DriConf with a better GUI utility for managing Mesa driver settings, various possible improvements to Nouveau or Freedreno, and more. Check out that full list on the Wiki if you are interested as well as their organization page.
For students interested in possibly participating in Google Summer of Code 2017 can find other organizations and details via the newly-published mentor list.
