Valve engineers have decided that they will not support system suspend/resume on SteamOS... Why? Because it's poor under Linux.

In response to an input controller being unresponsive after resuming from suspend, JohnV of Valve mentioned in the bug report, "suspend is no longer supported." He explained, "Given the state of hardware and software support throughout the graphics stack on Linux we didn't think we could make this reliable."

Linux suspend and resume has gotten a lot better over the years, but there's still select systems/components out there that play poorly with SnR on Linux, particularly if using proprietary drivers. Thus for now Valve has found it best to remove this functionality.
