Kubuntu 15.04 provides a great experience of the new KDE stack but the version being shipped by this KDE spin of Ubuntu is Plasma 5.2 given that it was the latest available for last week's 15.04 Vivid Vervet release. For those wishing to try out KDE Plasma 5.3, it's now easy thanks to the packages landing in Kubuntu Backports.

KDE Plasma 5.3 was released this morning with improvements to power management, a new Bluetooth applet, the KDE Plasma Media Center reaching a tech preview status, and more.

While Plasma 5.3 won't be pushed down as a stable release update to Kubuntu 15.04 given that it's not on the rolling-release train, it's still easy to try it out. The Kubuntu team has already pushed KDE Plasma 5.3 packages to the Kubuntu Backports PPA to make it relatively trivial to try out the new KDE desktop experience.

Kubuntu 15.04 users interested in finding out how to enable the Kubuntu Backports PPA can find the relevant details via the announcement posted a short time ago to Kubuntu.org.
