Posted by Michael Larabel on September 02, 2010

The first milestone release of openSUSE 11.4, which will be released in March of 2011, is now available. The openSUSE 11.3 release came in July and since then for openSUSE 11.4 the Novell and community developers have pulled in X.Org Server 1.9, GNOME 2.32 Beta 1, KDE Software Compilation 4.5, and many other package updates.

The openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 1 release brings performance improvements to the package management's network layer, a new HTTP and FTP package download back-end in libzypp, MultiCurl replacing MediaAria, and various other changes are present.

The openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 1 release announcement can be found at openSUSE.org. Per the openSUSE roadmap, a second milestone will be out before month's end and these milestone releases will continue until the sixth one at the end of January. Two release candidates of openSUSE 11.4 are planned for February while the public release of openSUSE 11.4 is expected on the 10th of March.
