KDE Software Compilation 4.5 Released

Posted by Michael Larabel on August 10, 2010

Following a brief delay, KDE Software Compilation 4.5 was released this morning. This semi-annual update to the KDE desktop and related packages brings new releases of the Plasma Desktop and Netbook workspaces, KDE WebKit support within the Konqueror web-browser, usabiliy refinements to Plasma for providing an improved user experience, and a plethora of other improvements and bug fixes.

The changes to KDE SC 4.5 are extensive as for the past six months the KDE development team has focused on "stability and completeness of the Desktop experience." One of the KDE announcements state that more than 16,000 bugs were fixed in this KDE 4.5 release. Thanks to the new KSharedDataCache package within the KDE Development Platform, many desktop components are also loading significantly faster compared to previous releases.

Details on the KDE Software Compilation 4.5 release can be found on KDENews.org and within the official KDE 4.5 release announcements.
