Linux 2.6.34-rc6 Kernel Released

Posted by Michael Larabel on April 30, 2010

Linus Torvalds released the Linux 2.6.34-rc6 kernel late last night, but the Linux kernel mailing list has been down this morning so there is no release announcement available. Beyond offering up a slew of fixes, the Linux 2.6.34-rc6 kernel ships with VMware's new standalone balloon driver for adjusting the system memory that's allocated to guest VMs in real-time and also the ipeth driver that is used for USB tethering to Apple iPhones.

The Linux 2.6.34-rc6 kernel also offers up various graphics/DRM fixes including Linux fixes for the unreleased Intel Sandy Bridge and various Radeon improvements (including a handful of ATI Evergreen / Radeon HD 5000 series KMS fixes).

The complete change-log for the Linux 2.6.34-rc6 kernel can be read at Kernel.org.

We continue to benchmark the very latest Linux kernel code on a daily basis at kernel-tracker.phoromatic.com. The official release of the Linux 2.6.34 kernel should come in May.
