Sun To Stop Solaris Express Community Edition

Posted by Michael Larabel on August 10, 2009

Sun's Glynn Foster has announced today on the OpenSolaris Forums that they will be discontinuing the Solaris Express Community Edition (SXCE) builds. For quite some time now, Sun has been providing bi-weekly updates of the latest (Open)Solaris code in the form of an ISO for those interested in testing out the latest work on this operating system.

However, beginning later this year, SXCE will stop. Instead, Sun will be providing IPS (Image Packaging System) packages of the latest Solaris packages, for which users will now need to upgrade from an existing release or pre-release.

It was also announced today that there will be no SXCE build 120 due to two major issues.
