Yesterday we shared that Compiz++ and Nomad would be merged back into Compiz
and today there are even more announcements coming out of the Compiz camp. With Compiz not having a clear road-map, a Compiz council has been established to begin charting the future of this compositing window manager. Besides merging Compiz++ and Nomad back into the mainline Compiz code-base, this five-member council has also agreed to merge Compiz and Compiz Fusion
together into a single system as well.
Compiz Fusion came about after Beryl
, but it has led to some fragmentation between the two projects. The Compiz FreeDesktop.org infrastructure is being eliminated with entirely and now will have a single bug tracker and other consolidated resources.
Beyond that, we have also learned that the next stable release of Compiz that will hopefully care the Compiz++ and Nomad feature sets should be out in August or September of this year.
All of this information was shared earlier today on the Compiz mailing list
