AMD's Official 8.42.3 Release Notes

Posted by Michael Larabel on October 24, 2007

It's over 24 hours now since the fglrx 8.42.3 download link first surfaced and we shared the great news with you that 8.42 delivers on AIGLX and other improvements. However, the AMD website still hasn't been updated for this new Linux driver. Though the AMD Proprietary Linux Release Notes for 8.42.3 is now accessible.

The new features mentioned in the release notes include support for AIGLX, X.Org 7.3, products older than the R600 now being enabled, and a new 3D user interface in the ATI Catalyst Control Center Linux Edition. These notes also mention four resolved issues, which include stuttering with TexturedVideo, Composite extension corruption, segmentation faults with AGP cards, and various error messages from the SuSE 10.2 RPMs. There are six known issues mentioned as well.

As usual, the release notes aren't the best and most detailed so check out our 8.42.3 driver review and the Phoronix Forums (especially this thread) for the full scoop.
