Smolt, the Linux hardware profiler that was introduced by the Fedora project for automatically reporting installed hardware and other system attributes, reached a new milestone last week and is in the process of another. Last week, Smolt reached 75,000 profiles for Fedora after being introduced back in January of this year
. At the time of writing, there are now over 78,300 profiles.
Another milestone for the Smolt project is an announcement that functional Smolt clients will be available for SuSE, Debian, and Ubuntu. There is also interest in packaging a Smolt client for Mandriva. As Mike McGrath put it, they are hoping that Smolt will become a "Linux thing" instead of just a "Fedora thing".
Current statistics from the Smolt profiles are available from the Fedora Project
along with additional details on the project page
. The announcement can be read on the fedora-announce-list
