AMD + ATI Acquisition Complete

Posted by Michael Larabel on October 25, 2006

Advanced Micro Device's acquisition of ATI Technologies is now complete. This $5.4 billion (USD) deal took months to complete but is now complete. With this deal now complete in 2007 AMD and ATI expect to deliver integrated platforms. They are also continuing to develop their x86 processor that integrates a CPU and GPU at the silicon level. This project has been codenamed "Fusion", and isn't expected to reach the public market until late 2008 or early 2009. No word was mentioned in the press release of open-sourcing any parts of the ATI graphics drivers. AMD's press release announcing the completed acquisition and future intentions can be found here.
