SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 Released - Supports MariaDB, Systemd & Btrfs

SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 is out today! SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 supports all of the latest open-source/Linux technologies and more.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 is available for x86_64, IBM POWER, and IBM System Z architectures. Like most other enterprise-focused Linux distributions, SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 offers various improvements for deploying on both real hardware and in the cloud along with bettering its support for Docker, etc. SLES12 is also able to take full advantage of IBM's new Power 8 series processors.

With SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 is also High Availability and Geo Clustering extensions with updated OCFS2/GF2 support and other improvements. There's also updates to the SUSE Linux Enterprise Virtual Machine Driver Pack that now supports Windows Server 2012 R2 and Microsoft Windows 8.1. SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop with the SUSE Linux Enterprise Workstation Extension have also been updated today.

Among the changes for SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 is support for MariaDB (and it replaces MySQL), installer improvements, systemd is now used to replace SysVinit, VMware support improvements, GNOME 3.10 is supported as the desktop environment, and various other updates. Btrfs as a file-system continues to also be supported officially by SUSE.
