Those using Fedora's Wine packages have easy access to enable command stream multi-threading (CSMT) support for Direct3D games to enable better performance.

Phoronix reader Michael Cronenworth pointed out in an email that with Wine 1.7.33 in Fedora for Fedora 21 and Rawhide there is now CSMT support. The CSMT support can be toggled via the winecfg utility and is otherwise disabled by default. The CSMT patches are indeed shown in the build log for the Fedora packages with this feature not yet being accepted upstream in Wine. Wine 1.7.33 was released last week.

The Wine Direct3D CSMT patches can significantly boost the performance for those engaging in Wine-based gaming. However, the patches in their current form aren't expected to land anytime soon. Though the Wine 1.8 release criteria is on the CSMT feature being present.

Maybe next the Fedora Wine packages will enable the support for interacting with Gallium Direct3D 9?
