AMD Richland APU Support Added To Coreboot
While traditionally AMD CPU/APUs and their chipsets are generally better supported by Coreboot than Intel hardware, only today is there AMD "Richland" APU support coming to Coreboot along with support for one new Lenovo laptop.
Being tacked into Coreboot along side support for other AMD Family 15h Bulldozer-derived hardware is Richland compatibility with its Piledriver cores. The Richland CPU support was committed today along with the Northbridge support.
With this new support comes a new motherboard being handled by Coreboot: Lenovo G505s. The Lenovo G505s is a quad-core, slim 15.6-onch laptop powered by the AMD A10-5750M APU. This new hardware support has been tested to being able to boot to Debian GNU/Linux "Jessie" with the Linux 3.16 kernel in conjunction with Coreboot's SeaBIOS payload.
This AMD Richland support for Coreboot was done by an Australian company, Altera Praxis, that specializes in high assurance systems.
