Ubuntu MATE On Track To Become An Official Spin

Ubuntu MATE is making progress as becoming an official Ubuntu derivative using the GNOME2-forked desktop environment.

Ubuntu MATE is reaching its first beta stage as being an official flavor of Ubuntu Linux. The Ubuntu MATE team has been working with the Ubuntu Technical Board to achieve an official status this cycle and the involved developers are currently working on new artwork and other MATE-themed integration.

There is currently an Ubuntu MATE Beta 1 release planned for 28 August as part of the Ubuntu 14.10 development cycle. Those wishing to learn more about the Ubuntu MATE work can find out more via the Ubuntu MATE blog.
