Plasma Active Continues Coming For Qt5/KF5
Being done as part of a Google Summer of Code project this year is porting KDE's Plasma Active to their newer technology stack.
Plasma Active is the user interface targeting all types of devices from tablets to smart TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems. Antonis Tsiapaliokas, a student developer and open-source/KDE fan, has been working on porting as much of Plasma Active as he can over the summer to using the newest stack: the Qt5 tool-kit with KDE Frameworks 5.
KDE Frameworks 5 was officially released earlier this month in case you missed it while this past week saw the first release of Plasma 5. Tsiapaliokas is working on allowing Plasma Active to leverage these latest KDE innovations.
In this blog post from Friday, Tsiapaliokas shares that he's still porting the Panel for Plasma Active over to the new stack. The Panel is working, but not all Plasmoids have been ported over yet to KF5/Qt5, and there's some functionality that hasn't yet been wired up. Overall though, nice progress is being made.
Meanwhile, Plasma Media Center is being ported over to KF5/Qt5 this summer by another GSoC participant for KDE multimedia fans.
