What It Takes To Port An X11 Application To Wayland
For those wondering what it entails in porting a program that previously depended upon X11 and its APIs to now working natively on Wayland without XWayland, here are some FOSDEM slides to check out.
Manuel Bachmann covered the process of porting legacy X11 and OpenGL-using applications to Wayland at FOSDEM earlier this month in Belgium. Bachmann went in-depth in covering the porting process for interested developers in moving their Linux applications from being X11 dependent to now playing well with Wayland. Those developers interested in all of the details can checkout the ODP slides of the presentation. I've just been finishing going up through the hundreds of presentations from FOSDEM (one of my favorite open-source events in the world!) and recapping the most interesting talks where there are slides or videos available; for those not into all of the FOSDEM content, it will soon be over, until next year.
