Sid Meier's next major game release in the Civilization franchise will see a native Linux game port.

Many Phoronix readers have been writing in this weekend about news out of PAX East 2014 of not only Civilization: Beyond Earth coming out later this year but that it will see a native Linux port. Beyond Earth is a new science-fiction-themed game within the Civilization series.

Those wishing to learn more about Civilization: Beyond Earth with its Linux / SteamOS support can visit Civilization.com and watch the fresh trailer that's embedded below. There's no firm release date yet for the game besides "Fall 2014." This game is being developed by Firaxis Games.

We're still waiting to hear about the release of older Sid Meier titles for Linux / SteamOS, especially Civilization V looked like it would come to Linux thanks to Valve's Linux gaming efforts. Stay tuned for more updates.
