Arch Linux, Debian, LLVM/Clang, and Mesa users rejoice! There's new automated, daily benchmarks of these important open-source projects coming on a daily basis.

As part of the latest efforts to the many Phoronix Test Suite 5.0 changes that will be ready to show off in the months ahead, the increased importance of Debian and Linux in general with the Valve SteamOS initiatives, Clang being a viable competitor to GCC, etc, I'm in the process of commissioning a number of new test systems for daily (and may turn into per-commit when time allows between benchmark runs) benchmarking of various open-source projects.

In showing off the new capabilities of the forthcoming Phoronix Test Suite 5.0, in the process of finishing off the latest commercial contract on the Phoronix Test Suite, and in looking at new ways to better enrich the Linux hardware experience, I have been buying and assembling a number of new Linux test systems dedicated to the daily and per-commit testing of major projects.

A Megaton Of New Linux Benchmarks Are Coming

At the moment the projects to be tracked frequently in their performance improvements and regressions include:

- Daily testing of the mainline Linux kernel as packaged via the Ubuntu Mainline Kernel PPA. This has been done in the past to benchmark the Linux kernel daily and it's been successful in tracking the Linux kernel performance but is being re-launched under our latest and more powerful framework.

- Routine benchmarking of the Oibaf PPA graphics driver packages on Ubuntu. This can be unstable at times but we'll see how it goes to see if it will be maintained in the long-term due to graphics driver stability issues.

- Daily testing of the Arch Linux packages. This has been a major request from Twitter followers and even the Wiki documentation has suggested against automated updates, but we'll see how it goes and if it will be maintained.

- Daily LLVM/Clang compiler benchmarking. This has been one of the most exciting projects I've been following in my Phoronix tenure over the past decade and really feel a lot more is to come ahead from this open-source compiler.

- Daily testing of Debian Sid as it's becoming more important with Valve's SteamOS ultimately deriving from the operating system.

I'm also exploring a few other projects as potentials for tracing either on a per-commit or daily basis but am relying upon Phoronix readers and my Twitter followers in deciding, plus obvious Phoronix Test Suite commercial interests.
