In recent months there's been Linux improvements for LLDB and with a commit today there is now support that has been re-established for ELF core file handling on Linux x86-64.

Support for Linux 64-bit ELF core files was done by Intel's Ashok Thirumurthi and can be found in LLDB as of r186516. Not yet supported is FreeBSD or support for AVX registers.
