In the past number of months on Phoronix there have been numerous articles about the conquest of David Herrmann
and others to killing CONFIG_VT in the Linux kernel
or at least deprecating it. Here's the latest material on the matter.
David Herrmann presented on Monday at XDC2013 over the state of CONFIG_VT and its 20 year history. For those that weren't able to attend, he's posted his material to this Wiki page

On a related note, prior to that on Monday he talked about DRM security where there's also PDF slides
and a video that's embedded below. However, the video noise quality appears to be rather high.
