GNOME developers hope that GNOME 3.10 will be in decent shape for initially supporting Wayland
as an alternative to X11/X.Org. There's already been improvements made to GNOME Shell
, the GTK tool-kit
, and other components
. Committed today to GTK+ was more Wayland work.
Now supported by GTK+ is a private GTK-Shell protocol
to be used by Mutter-Wayland and GTK for replacing GTK X11 properties for DBus names/paths.
In another commit there is restored support for the application menu
