Qt 5.1 Offers More OpenGL Functions

Posted by Michael Larabel on March 15, 2013

Last year I wrote how OpenGL may take on a greater role within Qt. Thanks to work by KDAB and others, the forthcoming Qt 5.1 tool-kit will offer enhanced OpenGL support.

With Qt 5.1 it will be easier to take advantage of specific OpenGL functionality, such as an OpenGL 4.3 Core Profile context, Qt functions for checking the existence of certain OpenGL extensions, and other helpful features.

More details about some of the OpenGL work within Qt 5.1 can be found at KDAB.com. Update: There's already a part two of KDAB's postings that cover additional OpenGL functionality being introduced in Qt 5.1.

Other Qt 5.1 features include Apple iOS support, Google Android support, improved Wayland handling, and more. The official release of Qt 5.1 is expected around April.
