The Unity 4.0 Game Engine was officially released today with this being the first major release of the popular cross-platform game engine to support Linux.

Unity 4 presents Linux support as a "deployment preview" and the developers say "[the port] is already looking amazing and is helping games make their way onto one of the most open gaming platforms in the world."

Aside from the Linux support, there's also support for Adobe Flash publishing, DirectX 11 support on Windows, and various other changes.
