Wayland, Weston 0.95 Pre-Release Is Available

Posted by Michael Larabel on June 25, 2012

In preparation for the Wayland/Weston 0.95 release in early July, a pre-release is now available (v0.94.90) that gets ready for this important milestone.

Version 0.95 is important for Wayland since that begins the point in which they are going to try to maintain a stable protocol and API for the Wayland/Weston 1.0 milestone. With 0.95, the API and protocol will be frozen with only backwards-compatible changes being allowed. Kristian Høgsberg plans to do the 0.95 release early next month and last we've heard is that he still hopes Wayland/Weston 1.0 will arrive well before year's end.

The 0.94.90 versions of Wayland and the reference Weston compositor are "really just warming up and making sure it all distchecks and the release mechanism is working," says Høgsberg on the Wayland development list.
