VIA fired off an email this morning because they received a best choice award at Computex.

The Best Choice of Computex 2012 Award isn't for some new CPU, a new open-source product, or even their $49 Android PC. The award they're so proud to announce today is for a USB 3.0 Active Optical Cable. Yes, really, it's a VIA USB cable.

For this company and their failed open-source work that is dead is now onto making USB 3.0 AOC cables. Their triumphant press release is here.

At least since it's just a cable, this is one of the few VIA products where Linux users don't need to be concerned about shoddy VIA Linux support or slow performance, assuming your USB 3.0 controller is supported by your preferred Linux distribution.
