Preparing For The Release of Wayland 1.0

Posted by Michael Larabel on September 14, 2012

Listen to Kristian Høgsberg talk about the imminent Wayland 1.0 release, multimedia integration for Wayland/Weston, and other recent Wayland developments.

Besides the Intel OpenGL Linux update by Eric Anholt that included briefly showing off Left 4 Dead 2 on the open-source Mesa DRI driver, another interesting GStreamer Conference 2012 session was Kristian Høgsberg's update on Wayland. The video recording is now available from this event that took place in late August from San Diego, California.

If you don't have time to sit through an hour-long video, see my notes from the Wayland talk. Wayland 1.0 should be here within a month or two, there's smooth video playback on Wayland, Intel VA-API capabilities, and other interesting features mentioned.

More information on the latest Wayland plans and developments will be shared next week from XDC2012 Nürnberg with live coverage on Phoronix.
