Twitter Is Set To Join The Linux Foundation

Posted by Michael Larabel on August 24, 2012

Next week the Linux Foundation will announce that Twitter is joining them as a member organization.

The Linux Foundation tips us off this Friday afternoon of the pending announcement. "Not only is Twitter built on Linux but open source software is core to its technology strategy. It's investing even more in the platform now as the company evolves and positions itself for the future. Linux has become even more dominant among web-based companies as the 'hacker way' has become pervasive among the newest generation of startups. Twitter's Open Source Manager will be speaking next week at LinuxCon in San Diego Thursday morning."

Inktank and Servergy are two other companies that will be joining the Linux Foundation as members too.

While it's nice to see Twitter join the Linux foundation -- and they are indeed Linux / open-source friendly -- it doesn't mean any fundamental changes or profound announcements are forthcoming. For those that don't remember, back in March NVIDIA joined the Linux Foundation and we have yet to see anything new out of them or better support open-source Linux drivers.

Stay tuned for more announcements next week from San Diego.
