Valve's Steam Linux Beta: "Fairly Soon"

Posted by Michael Larabel on August 17, 2012

Valve's Steam Linux beta will be available fairly soon.

In a new video interview, Gabe Newell confirmed "we will have betas for Steam for Linux and Steam Big Play fairly soon." Newell mentioned, "If customers want to build game consoles with Steam based on Linux. That's great." Plus other interesting comments during his interview about Valve.

Those interested in seeing this 21-minute video interview can grab the link from this forum thread.

There's also another short interview where Gabe reiterates his distaste for Windows 8.

Of course, neither news item should be particularly surprising for those faithful Phoronix readers. Back in April is when I exclusively reported on Newell not liking Windows 8 and the Valve Linux plans plus since then have been mentioning a beta around the time of my annual pilgrimage wouldn't be surprising.
