Wayland 1.0 With Weston Is Near: v0.95 Is Released

Posted by Michael Larabel on July 25, 2012

Version 0.95 of Wayland and Weston were released on Tuesday.

Version 0.95 for Wayland/Weston marks the point of maintaining protocol and client API stability. They will attempt not to break any Wayland clients or toolkits written against this 0.95 protocol/API. The interfaces aren't completely frozen until the 1.0 release in the near future, but they will to resist breaking things and use appropriate versioning.

The Wayland/Weston 0.95 release announcement by Kristian Høgsberg on the wayland-devel list.

The 0.95 release isn't particularly exciting for end-users since there's still client/application work needing to be done, finishing up XWayland, and enhancing the tool-kit support, but this release is important for developers. Wayland 1.0 is still on track for christening in 2012.
