The good news: FreeBSD 9.0 RC2 is now available. The bad news with that announcement: FreeBSD 9.0 RC2 is late, which also means the third (and last) release candidate has been pushed back along with the final release. Hopefully FreeBSD 9.0
will arrive in time for Christmas.
Ken Smith announced the FreeBSD 9.0 RC2 public availability today via the mailing list
. See the first RC announcement
to find out what's new in FreeBSD 9.0.
FreeBSD 9.0 was originally set to be out in September
and has seen delays that pushed it back to November. This second release candidate was supposed to be out in October, which obviously didn't happen, so now RC3 and final have been pushed back too. The third RC for FreeBSD 9.0 is expected at the end of the month and with a bit of luck the "RELEASE" build will be here on 7 December.
