Linux 4.1-RC2 Kernel Released
Coming right on time is the second release candidate to the Linux 4.1 kernel.
Linux 4.1 has many new features but of course for frequent Phoronix readers there isn't much to get excited about since the merge window has now been closed for the past week. However, a whole lot of fixes have been landed in the past week.
The number of fixes/merges that were pulled by Linus in the past week are fairly normal and, according to Torvalds rather on the low side. He explained, "I think people tend to take a breather after the merge window, because the -rc3's tend to then be a bit bigger again. But it may just also be that I've just gotten much better at saying "the merge window is over, I'm not taking random stragglers", or that people are just getting better at keeping to the merge window. Whatever the reason, the time of huge -rc2's seems to be happily behind us."
His brief 4.1-RC2 announcement can be read on the kernel mailing list, but long story short is there's nothing really new to get exciting about unless you were affected by one of the recent bugs/regressions.
