Going back to early 2012 has been DocumentFoundation.org Bug #48903 for tracking Wayland support. Over three years later, the bug is done and marked "RESOLVED FIXED."
Caolán McNamara is the developer that for months has been working on the GTK3 vclplug support for LibreOffice so that it can use the modern version of the tool-kit. With that done, recently he's been focusing on the LibreOffice Wayland support, which he wrote about a few days ago when he got the initial support working.
Caolán McNamara has made much progress for LibreOffice's support of GTK3 and Wayland.
Commenting on Bug #48903 this morning, McNamara wrote about closing the bug, "yes..., lets call this fixed in the sense that the gtk3 plugin works under wayland. There's still a bug or two, but the broad scope of things works."
This initial LibreOffice Wayland support is present in the LibreOffice 5.0 branch, while more Wayland/GTK3 improvements will surely come in later 5.x releases. Along with many other new features, the LibreOffice 5.0 open-source office suite is scheduled to be released in early August.
In other recent Wayland porting news, Red Hat has been progressing on running Firefox natively over Wayland.
