"Vulkan Next" Is In Active Development
The Khronos Group is having their day at SIGGRAPH 2016. No major API announcements with availability today to talk about, at least not yet. But "Vulkan Next" was commented on.
What's been said so far about Vulkan Next: the core spec in definition, some features may come as extensions, and the schedule is to be determined. Vulkan 1.0 specification continues to be maintained. As we've covered many times now, Vulkan 1.0.x minor specification/documentation updates continue coming about weekly.
Priorities for Vulkan Next are better multi-GPU support, VR support, cross-API and cross-process sharing, sub-group instructions, generalized render-pass/sub-pass dependencies, and a rigorous memory model.
On the matter of better cross-API support, the new OpenGL 2016 adds ARB_gl_spirv as something for developers to make use of today.
The Khronos Group and specifically the Vulkan Working Group continue looking for feedback from those working to implement Vulkan in their projects, at least in an experimental manner.
More Khronos coverage and the day progresses. For those interested there is today's Khronos livestream.
