Google To Shutdown Google Code, Concedes To GitHub

Days after Gitorious got acquired by GitLab, the latest code hosting platform seeing a shake-up is Google Code. Google has announced today they're shutting down Google Code.

With most open-source projects having centered around GitHub -- including many of Google's own projects -- lately Google code has been home to "abuse and spam" so as a result they're going to be closing up shop on their code hosting platform.

New project creation is now disabled, in August all the sites will go read-only, and next January the project hosting service will be closed through projects can download their source/issues/Wikis through the rest of 2015. Google does have a Google Code to GitHub exporter tool to help those move off the service.
