porthimus: Anyone hear any updates on how Optimus switching is coming along in Linux?
MPX: Cough: Since we can't have steam on linux yet, I just thought I'd show off a couple of gameplay vids of steam running under wine (source games). More to come :)
MPX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLIG7JlOr5Y
MPX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgvpD1g6owA
MPX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1CLWA2AWvQ
MPX: Wine is coming along nicely :)
porthimus: any word on Optimus support with Linux? Has anyone been able to actually get the nvidia chip to perform yet?
MPX: For those who care: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=8BE92F9D63029568 Entire no mercy on wine :)
CME: MPX, uuh, wine + catalyst.. would you mind trying http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=51438 and http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=31574 if and how they work in 720p? :)
MPX: Ahhh demos :D
MPX: Ain't they taxing enough in windows? ;)
CME: well, both works fine with my old gf7800gtx in wine :)
MPX: Will try
MPX: Lol
MPX: Fuckings from yo: Vertexshaderversion <3.0
MPX: That was the output that Stargazer presented me with.
CME: :D, you have glsl disabled in wine?
MPX: Yeah
MPX: Was this a test? :P
CME: enable it :), sm3.0 with arb shaders works only on nvidia
MPX: Stargazer doesn't like me. It loads, but then nothing.
CME: after loading it takes some time here, too
MPX: Well, I get driver errors in terminal. Screen flicks, then nothing :)
MPX: Will wait though
MPX: http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=52938
MPX: This is my favorite
CME: yup, that one is cool :)
CME: looked very nice on the bigscreen
CME: but in wine with my gf7, the nvidia driver falls back to software rendering :|
MPX: That elevated demo is quite taxing :S
MPX: fr-04_debris loads :)
CME: yeah, debris is nice too, also for that little size (170kb or something like this) :)
MPX: Getting about 30 FPS in linux. Everything works in that demo. In windows it's fluent
MPX: wonder if I should do a GLC out of it :D
MPX: it'd probably land at 15-20 fps then :P
CME: just 15-20fps here at 720p
MPX: What rig you got?
CME: rig?
MPX: PC :)
MPX: Whats your specs
CME: ah :), phenom 955, 4gb ram and geforce 7800gtx
MPX: Same as me
MPX: except I got 2 5770's in crossfire
MPX: What clock you got running on your 955? Stock?
CME: yup
MPX: Ah...
MPX: I used to run it at 4 GHZ
MPX: But then I changed the fsb to 300....runs at 3.6 GHZ now :)
CME: :o
MPX: Brute power :O
MPX: Got the V10 cooler on it :)
CME: ah :), i just have that crappy boxed cooler :|
CME: need to get a new one, but meh
MPX: That cooler is no good, not even for stock :S
CME: yeah, the old boxed coolers for the athlons 64s was much better :/
MPX: This was my first AMD rig ever :) Well, before the 955BE I had the 720 tricore :)
MPX: Had plenty of computers...but they've all be intel or IBM clones (early 80's)
CME: ah :), for me its my second amd cpu, before that i had an athlon 4400+ (s939).. but the old nforce4 board died,, and so i bought the 955 + am3 board :)
MPX: Can't say I regret switching to AMD though. Best choice I did
MPX: What board you got?
CME: gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
MPX: Oh nice...USB3?
MPX: I got the Asus m4a79t deluxe :)
MPX: Not gonna upgrade until the bulldozer platform rolls out.
CME: no usb3, its already 1 1/2 years old :)
MPX: Ahh :)
MPX: Come to think of it, I had the same board (stupid me)
MPX: I had to RMA it. They sent me the Asus one instead
MPX: Have you OC'ed your board or are you running everything stock?
CME: everything stock
CME: i'm happy with the performance :) (ok the graphic card could be better but well, for the most things i do its fast enough)
CME: mhm, does media error works with your ati gpu?
MPX: Media errors?
CME: http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=31574
MPX: Well, it asked me for a bunch of stuff that winetricks can give me
MPX: Didn't bother :S
CME: ah ok
CME: the visual studio runtime stuff?
CME: yay, media error works with llvmpipe, nice
MPX: Yep :)
archl: hi, I just read the newest "NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M Gaming: Windows 7 Ultimate vs. Ubuntu 10.10"
archl: Still, there is no place for SpringRTS engine.
archl: Hi, anybody play RTS game on Linux?
