Phoronix IRC Log: 2010-09-25
Klas: byteframe: indeed, but that was a nice piece of new anyhow
byteframe: I suppose. Gallium3d is cool, but I feel burned over the steam-linux hysteria. Seemed like it drived alot of traffic to phoronix though.
Klas: byteframe: definitely, that was just a bunch of rumours which weren't even remotely credible, supporting linux means supporting houndreds of operating systems for a few percent of the market
Klas: even supporting ubuntu mean supporting more then 10 different operating systems
byteframe: There was always the question of having to run non-linux games through wine, through the steam linuxx client, which I fiqured would also be hard to finagle.
Klas: wine is a nice idea but not ready for modern games
Klas: it's way too buggy to base releases on it
byteframe: I disagree.
byteframe: Wine will be the saviour for linux gaming.
byteframe: There's nothing else really.
byteframe: wined3d's getting quite good.
Klas: byteframe: note will be, not is
Klas: soon (TM)
Klas: my point is that as long as it's easier to dual-boot into windows
Klas: note, easier, not handier when it works
Klas: wine is not good enough
byteframe: Screw dual booters, who needs em?
Klas: needs and needs
Azerthoth: Klas, not ready for modern games? just finished Starcraft 2 and it handled wonderfully
Klas: it's pretty much a fact that most people can't stay with one OS
Klas: Azerthoth: nice
byteframe: Source games are runnign great in dxlevel 95.
Klas: I might underestimate it
Azerthoth: my problems with wine hasnt really been with games but with other apps, games kind of drive what wine does
Azerthoth: things like Grabit, occasionally flaky
djura-san: good morning people o/
mikeplus64: Good greetings.
merlijn: hello, any forum admins/mods available?
merlijn: I don't see any button to report bad content, but I'd appreciate it if this were to be deleted: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?p=149306 (it simply has no place on your forums, and googling 'mikeeusa' will give you enough of a clue)
merlijn: thanks in advance.
