Guest90182: I wonder if we'll ever get steam
Deanjo: Get a kettle. Guaranteed steam
Guest90182: that'd be pretty much same as using wine :-(
bkero: wine in a kettle? Feh!
zzuper: lotrkotte
bkero: lotrfotr
jetsaredim: deanjo
zzuper: akrimasta
jetsaredim: you replied to my post just now - had a follow-up
jetsaredim: are there any low-profile cards that support triple monitor setup?
Deanjo: There maybe a few ATI's or Quattro cards
Deanjo: Quadro
Deanjo: Usually for simplicities sake people are using Matrox triple head products
jetsaredim: ?
Deanjo: http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/th2go/
jetsaredim: ugh
jetsaredim: external
jetsaredim: and expensive
jetsaredim: i'm halfway to a decent system for that price
Deanjo: Ya other then that your gonna have to look at an ATI for eyefinity or a dual card setup
jetsaredim: unfortunately not an option in a SFF Dell
jetsaredim: only one PCI-E slot
Deanjo: And with multiple display setups greater then 3 you will have to look at a Nvidia Quadro to get that capability on Team greens products
jetsaredim: on what?
jetsaredim: team green?
Deanjo: Team Green = nvidia
jetsaredim: o
jetsaredim: i mean - i think three x 24" should be all i need
Deanjo: Really I think the only option you will find that will suit your needs is a ATi card with eyefinity support. And finding a low profile version with 3 outputs could be tough
jetsaredim: I've got a LP 7300 that I can stick in there for now to test out the dual monitor setup when I get my second monitor
jetsaredim: indeed
jetsaredim: N82E16814102875 ?
Deanjo: Usually when you have a combination of Analog/DVI/HDI they only allow two in use
jetsaredim: hmm
jetsaredim: that's the only LP eyefinity that newegg lists
Deanjo: Your looking for something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131358
Deanjo: but finding one in low profile is gonna be tough if you can find one
Deanjo: Adapters you can figure on at least $20 a piece for cheap ones if your monitors do not support Display port
jetsaredim: so even if ATI card only has three output - if it has eyefinity i can use all three at once
jetsaredim: er - ...?
Deanjo: If it is the models with multiple DisplayPorts on
Deanjo: otherwise you will be limited to dual out on a single card
jetsaredim: gah
jetsaredim: they either come in 1 or 5 or 6
jetsaredim: but not 2, 3 or 4
Deanjo: Yup
jetsaredim: frustrating
jetsaredim: i suppose i'll have to just settle for the two monitors for now
Deanjo: The only cards that I have seen that did just triple head were the old matrox cards and they are pretty much useless in linux nowdays
jetsaredim: i can imagine
jetsaredim: my plan was to either buy a decent new desktop setup and use my current Dell for a Xen server
jetsaredim: or increase the productivity of the Dell and build a new Xen server
jetsaredim: since i already have a 7300 LP the latter option is way cheaper
Deanjo: When it comes to expansion possibilities the SFF systems are very limited
jetsaredim: yea - its a work system - not my choice
jetsaredim: I suppose the 7300 should support the two monitors just fine then?
jetsaredim: i mean - would it even be worth it to upgrade the card to a cheap 50-100 card to get the better performance for possible use with steam?
jetsaredim: or is something like the GT220 not going to handle that?
Deanjo: I wouldn't bother buying a card for "steam" until it actually is out. It is just as likely that you would have bought a card for a product that never debuts.
