hahahaya: lemme guess
hahahaya: no steam news
hahahaya: im using an ipad to get on here
evilbulgarian: hi, trying to build a new pc for starcraft 2 enjoyable at 1080 or 1920x1080 wouldp refer amd but if i have to go to the dark side thats ok. any info would be greatly appreciated currently following techreport.com's guides but they are mostly intel.
Gnurdux: starcraft ii apparently doesn't need much power
Gnurdux: anything beyond integrated graphics should do OKL
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: uhm, have i seen it correctly that r600 does not support OGL 2.1 in plain mesa?
Ivanovic: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=8d0985b9b8f20baecbf374f6543db12b1f1d52f9
evilbulgarian: Gnurdux: hmm ok thanks
Gnurdux: evilbulgarian: id suggest you at least google the graphics card and sc2\
Gnurdux: to see if it runs it
Gnurdux: what card are you thinking of getting?
evilbulgarian: Gnurdux: already have the graphics card from my current system which died its a sapphire radeon hd5770 1GB 128bit
Gnurdux: that is MORE than good enough
Gnurdux: wayy more
Daekdroom: way beyond good enough
evilbulgarian: Gnurdux: but it barely ran solid at 1600x1200
Gnurdux: that was probably your CPU failing
Gnurdux: what CPU do you have?
Daekdroom: *did
evilbulgarian: Gnurdux: had an amd x2 4600
evilbulgarian: yeah RIP Daekdroom
Gnurdux: what's the clockspeed of that?
evilbulgarian: mobo wont even POST
Gnurdux: (too lazy to google)
evilbulgarian: think it was 2.5
evilbulgarian: or 2.4
Gnurdux: hmm
Gnurdux: that should be good enough
evilbulgarian: yeah not sure if things have changed since beta
evilbulgarian: whats the main diff between intel i7-860 and i7-870
Gnurdux: price
evilbulgarian: both same price on newegg
Gnurdux: link?
evilbulgarian: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115214&CMP=OTC-TechReport&ATT=19-115-214&nm_mc=OTC-TechReport&cm_mmc=OTC-TechReport-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA
Gnurdux: are you sure this isnt the i7-870s or something>
evilbulgarian: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115213&cm_re=i7-870-_-19-115-213-_-Product
Gnurdux: oh
Gnurdux: so far as i can tell
Gnurdux: the 870 is slightly better
Gnurdux: for no additional cost
Gnurdux: so i guess just get it
Gnurdux: prolly it replaced the 860
evilbulgarian: weird
evilbulgarian: looks like it offers better turbo modes
Gnurdux: the 870?
evilbulgarian: yeah
evilbulgarian: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2839
Flyser: 2,8GHz vs. 2,93GHz
evilbulgarian: what mobo do u guys recommend for that? GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD4P?
Gnurdux: evilbulgarian, btw, how is this on topic given that SCII does not run on Linux?
christian_lappy: looks like he want to use/cxgames for that maybe
Gnurdux: oh
christian_lappy: evilbulgarian: you want to play sc2 with cx/wine ?
evilbulgarian: haha well i wont use it just for sc2
evilbulgarian: i think it runs on wine
dandel: michaellarabel, the git repository for phoronix test suite needs a resync again. (git pull fails saying that the latest revision is from the 3rd)
christian_lappy: evilbulgarian: i would recommend a nv card for wine playing btw
dandel: got the latest now, but there is still regressions.... can't install test suites or tests.... errors out.
dandel: at least from the gui
michaellarabel: dandel: GUI is only partially fixed up at the moment
dandel: ok.
kristian-aalborg: hi all
Azerthoth: BBC headline "Young Fear Joblessness Cycle" yeah, really, should try being older and established then have that cycle start. There is some fear for ya me kiddo's
Azerthoth: youth is wasted on the young, and obviously intelligence is too
Hertta: faints
Azerthoth: much easier to start over at 20 or 25 than it is at 40
RambJoe: anyone know about vsftpd?
Hertta: Something
RambJoe: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Very_Secure_FTP_Daemon i did exactly what it says
RambJoe: with the xinetd
RambJoe: but i still get 500 OOPS: could not bind listening IPv4 socket
RambJoe: and i told vsftpd not to listen
