asciiwolf: hello
asciiwolf: any news about linux version of steam?
Nevtus: asciiwolf: the silence in here says it all
asciiwolf: :)
meGenius: asciiwolf: before 2 months we thought steam is going to be released for linux, today, we beleive there might be no steam for linux :P
Azerthoth: meGenius, and how many times has this happened?
Azerthoth: this wasnt the first trip to that particular rodeo
Azerthoth: and I'll keep getting annoyed with fanboi's and laughing, right up until I am proven wrong (which I do hope happens someday)
Azerthoth: 'more fools know jack fool than jack fool knows'
meGenius: :D
meGenius: Azerthoth: it's good to hope at least ;)
kondor6c: why might there be no steam for Linux at all?
Azerthoth: kondor6c, how do you spell proprietary ?
pauletin: ... well someone needs to put 'No asking about steam' in the topic
Gnurdux: pauletin, heh, it's still an interesting question though
Gnurdux: especially: what does or doesn't michaellarabel know
RambJoe: shit
RambJoe: my arch drive just failed
Preludelinux: drive failure sucks
RambJoe: what to used to test the drives?
Gnurdux: so, quick question before i irrevocably commit to this laptop
Gnurdux: how bad/noticeable are the problems with ATI 5xxx series drivers on Linux?
Daekdroom: Gnurdux, the opensource drivers aren't quite there yet.
Gnurdux: not an issue, i'll be happy to use proprietary ones
Daekdroom: You should head over to #ati to ask that question, then
Gnurdux: lol, didn't know that existed; thanks
Gnurdux: guess I should have remembered that freenode has a channel for everything
dandel: Gnurdux, i run the hd 5000 series on linux.
Gnurdux: and you can run nexuiz etc fine without glitches?
dandel: hmm.... one sec.
dandel: extracts nexius-252.zip
Gnurdux: lol
Gnurdux: i'll also ask on #ati
dandel: hmm... 1280x1024 with max settings on everything i could figure out on graphics didn't show any real errors.
dandel: and i was getting about 120fps constantly.
dandel: is that what you would want to know of Gnurdux?
Gnurdux: well, it's a good sign at least
dandel: the problematic stuff i find is with wine and video accelerated decoding.
Gnurdux: oh
dandel: however, any newer gaming computer can handle 1080p video content with ease.
Gnurdux: well, hopefully i will not need accelerated video decoding
Gnurdux: since i'll have a pretty decent processor
Gnurdux: and i don't use wine
dandel: do you ddr2, or ddr3 memory?
dandel: *have ddr2
Gnurdux: well, this is a will
Gnurdux: i will have ddr3
Gnurdux: i don't have the computer yet
dandel: ah.
Gnurdux: it's a laptop :\
dandel: which distro of linux?
Gnurdux: probably the 'buntu
Gnurdux: i use debian now
dandel: ok... word of advice, when installing ubuntu 10.04 use xforcevesa to install, because the 5000 series is not supported on the included kms system.
Gnurdux: ok, i'll keep that in mind
Gnurdux: g2g
Gnurdux: thanks for your help
dandel: oh and also, use the closed source driver for now.
Daekdroom: Now my Gnome theme is ready to hurt everyone's eye :3
Daekdroom: mixed Dichotomy and Equinox Ambience
Gnurdux: dandel, i certainly will use the closed-source driver
