FliPPeh: Pardon for that
FliPPeh: Had to set up some autoconnecting
FliPPeh: TEST WANT TO THREE
vgrade_: I've been paying with the new EMGD driver on my Joggler there may be some hope for all the GMA500 users ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnwfVtHuhoI
axisys: so i just installed 8gb mem and so i need to remove ubuntu 32bit and pick a 64bit ver.. or go with a virtualization .. what type 1 virtualization has more support .. kvm or xen ?
axisys: it is my laptop
axisys: or should i just installed ubuntu 64bit and go with virtualbox ?
axisys: s/installed/install/
Daekdroom: axisys, you can use the PAE kernel
axisys: what's PAE kernel.. i don't know much .. except i thing it is to access 8gb mem from 32bit os .. but like to know at least what PAE stands for
riisen: Physical Adress Extenssion tror jag
riisen: Extension*
riisen: address*
axisys: riisen: oh ok.. is it safe ? pae kernel that is.. does it get updated as often as regular kernel ?
Daekdroom: axisys, in ubuntu, as far as I know, yes.
s_20: i don't think it'll allow a single virtual address space to allocate more than 4gb though.. they can't magically make integers bigger
Daekdroom: s_20, but who'll need more than 4GB in a virtual adress space in a laptop?
mjr: pae is a bit kludgy and not really well-maintained, but for 8 gb, maybe it'd work...
s_20: who was more than 4gb of ram in a laptop that doesn't suppoert 64bit? ;)
mjr: there _is_ the option of running a 64-bit kernel with 32-bit userland
mjr: personally, I would (and do) just run the whole 64-bit kit and kaboodle
axisys: i see two school of thought..
axisys: thoughts
axisys: i sure dont think i will need more than 4gb for one process.. may be splunk
axisys: but again if pae is not maintained well, then may be i will use go with 64 bit
mjr: pae is basically the ugly bastard child of linux, linus hates it and not many want to touch it and feed it ;)
Daekdroom: It was installed by default when I tried 10.04 :|
Daekdroom: and I'm nowhere near having 3.25GB
RambJoe: xfce is kinda awesome with compiz
RambJoe: not sure if i should use over openbox
