Zerb_Riss: SURPRISE portal 2 on the ps3 like anyone cares
Azalyn: eh?
Azalyn: that would never be the surprise.
Sir_Brizz: that's literally what it was
mikeplus64: groans.
Azalyn: eh?
Azalyn: D:< ... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU ....
Sir_Brizz: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/64064
Sir_Brizz: and thus, the only surprise is, Portal 2 on PS3
Sir_Brizz: aka the stupidest surprise possible
Azalyn: i already googled it. hence the "FFFFFFFFFUUUU"
Sir_Brizz: gaben was at the press conference
Azalyn: valve deserves a PUNCH IN THE FUCKING FACE. how the hell was that "surprise" even worth waiting for.
Sir_Brizz: he said, and I almost quote exactly "Portal 2 on PS3 will be the best version of Portal 2 on consoles"
Sir_Brizz: lulz
Sir_Brizz: yes gaben, on consoles
Sir_Brizz: because portal 2 will suck on anything but the PC
Sir_Brizz: but at least it will be better on PS3!
Azalyn: i knew it wouldn't be the linux announcement because i figured that wouldn't be as interesting to the "masses", and surprises at an event like E3 need to appeal to a wide audience... but holy fuck. announcing a ps3 version of portal is even worse.
Azalyn: and yes, i saw the "best version on any console" comment too.
SLenka: hm
mikeplus64: I agree.
djura-san: o/
FliPPeh_: nom
christian_lappy: great, portal 2 for ps3 ?!?! wtf
christian_lappy: i'm so damned pissed its hard to describe
FliPPeh_: FO SHU?
FliPPeh_: I thought valve hated PS3
christian_lappy: blablalbal..it got so muchbetteer...we want money...
FliPPeh_: Well, as long as they make sum steam for linux by the way
tkmorris: steam?
FliPPeh_: STEAM?ßßß
FliPPeh_: shakes
tkmorris: PS3 is so open that you can't install GNU/Linux anymore
Wowi: sure you can. if you don't update
tkmorris: and never ever play online again, uh?
Wowi: I think you can if you have some special proxy thingy
Wowi: haven't tried it tho
Wowi: but yeah, not really
PupUserdfe5ac: HI WHAT IS THE SITE OF THE Phoronixv
PupUserdfe5ac: HI
FliPPeh_: phoronix.com ?
christian_lappy: funny question that is
PupUserdfe5ac: THANKS PAL

christian_lappy: we neverwill get native valve games
tkmorris: we already got some o.O
FliPPeh_: tkmorris: Which?
tkmorris: oh right, valve acquired id soft
tkmorris: so you're right about valve specifically
FliPPeh_: :)
tkmorris: wrong too
tkmorris: but I confused the two xP
Azalyn: eh? they didn't acquire id.
Azalyn: what are you talking about?
tkmorris: I said I was wrong -.-
tkmorris: what are _you_ talking about?
Azalyn: your statement was vague. "wrong too" doesn't really tell someone which statement was wrong.
tkmorris: fine, I dislike being wrong xP
Azalyn: lolz, you're better than most. i expected you to just keep arguing for the next three hours.
Azalyn: ^-^
tkmorris: T_T
Azalyn: rawr.
Azalyn: no tears allowed.
FliPPeh_: YOU'RE WRONG I'M RIGHT CASE CLOSED
Azalyn: yeah? well you smell like broccoli.
Sleepy_Coder: WRONG is not defined, therefore, I am awesome.
Azalyn: that's right bitch, i went there.
Azalyn: i crossed the line, and there's no turning back.
Sleepy_Coder: inserts garden greens into Azalyn, albeit forcefully
Sleepy_Coder: :p
Azalyn: you missed.
Azalyn: what terrible aim you have.
Sleepy_Coder: Valve acquired iD?
Sleepy_Coder: And be nice, you're too tight, it was hard to find the spot
Azalyn: no soup for you.
Sleepy_Coder: omnomnom
swtcks: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showpost.php?p=133979&postcount=5 is this true?
Ivanovic: swtcks: expected release with 1.8.x support is 10.6, so sometime later this month
Ivanovic: swtcks: hmm, regarding some windows news site the 10.6 driver might be out right now
Ivanovic: so with that one you should have xorg-server 1.8.x support
Azalyn: the link that swtcks posted *is* about 10.6
Azalyn: "Thread: ati catalyst 10.6 released"
Ivanovic: argh, okay
Ivanovic: (have i ever mentioned that i dislike this "view single post" feature while there is no way to directly link to specific posts and keep the rest of the thread in view?
Azalyn: i wonder how long before ubuntu stabilizes that in their repositories
Azalyn: sighs
Ivanovic: rough guess: till the release 10.10 is out!
Ivanovic: yeah, there are benefits to relying on rolling release distributions like gentoo
Azalyn: i use gentoo on my main machine. but the living room pc is for someone else to use.
Azalyn: so i have ubuntu on that one
Azalyn: and i haven't been able to enable compiz because of that stupid minimize/unminimize bug...
Azalyn: i was thinking this release might have had it fixed.
Ivanovic: can't you select the render feature that compiz should use?
Ivanovic: and deactivate effects for maximize/minimize?
Ivanovic: at least the kde compositor allows selection of features that should be active...
Azalyn: i'm not sure if that is the problem. i think just having compiz enabled at all causes the problem.
Azalyn: this is a dumb issue though, they should have fixed it by now.
Azalyn: i thought that by upgrading to lucid, it'd be fixed. but it wasnt
Ivanovic: you can either use an xorg server with the "nobackfill" patch
Ivanovic: or try to somehow install the new fglrx
thomashc: anyone know any PyQt?
FliPPeh_: Nah.
FliPPeh_: I only used Qt in C++ :x
thomashc: shit
thomashc: I have a huge hole in my Qt knowledge
thomashc: has never made tabs
alexandernst: thomashc: QTabWidget is what you're looking for
thomashc: I know
thomashc: but
alexandernst: myqtabwidget.addPage(mywidget)
thomashc: I'm trying to figure it out, but there is almost no documentation, each tab will have a QTextEdit widget that I need access too, but I'm not sure how I'd get access to the one in a specified tab
thomashc: to change the contents, properties, etcetera.
alexandernst: by it's name
alexandernst: myqtabwidget.myqtextedit1.text()
alexandernst: myqtabwidget.myqtextedit2.text()
alexandernst: etc etc etc
FliPPeh_: I never got around learning Python :(
thomashc: yeah, but how would I do that if I didn't know how many tabs there were?
FliPPeh_: I don't even know if it's worth it
thomashc: FliPPeh_, I dunno, but I love it.
djura-san: im off boys and girls. have a nice chat :))
alexandernst: FliPPeh_: python is good, c++ bad
FliPPeh_: I do my stuff in Haskell and C
FliPPeh_: And C++ sometimes
thomashc: I know a bit of other languages, but I've always liked Python more.
alexandernst: thomashc: do a for each loop
FliPPeh_: Or shell scripting
FliPPeh_: Well
alexandernst: thomashc: for each qcontrol that is qtextedit, do_my_stuff()
FliPPeh_: Picking up Python isn't that much of a problem, should I need it
thomashc: I see
thomashc: thank you let me try that
alexandernst: thomashc: just get a list with all controls from the myqtabgwidget
thomashc: wait
thomashc: I need to modify them independently though
thomashc: Basically, it's a text editor
alexandernst: thomashc: myqtabwidget.children()
alexandernst: will return a qobjectlist
thomashc: I need to say, I need to make sure open opens a file in the right tab, etc
thomashc: hmm I see
thomashc: begins rewriting code lol
alexandernst: then iterate over every object, and make conditions
thomashc: alright
thomashc: thanks
alexandernst: begins init 0
alexandernst: gonna be here tomorrow afternoon, I'll help you if you can't make it
alexandernst: but better join #pyqt
thomashc: I did
alexandernst: I'm off. gn *
thomashc: *ignored*
thomashc: lol
thomashc: cya
alexandernst: cya ;)
FliPPeh_: One thing I didn't like about python was it's "everything lowercase" convention
FliPPeh_: I always liked class names to be uppercased
FliPPeh_: It makes the code much more readable
FliPPeh_: And the forced namespaces
FliPPeh_: BAD
FliPPeh_: import sys; sys.uname() - why not just "uname()"?
RambJoe: they should release steam on another open platform
RambJoe: like the ipad or iphone
RambJoe: wait wut
Kame: You just blew my mind man
Kame: Wait, portal 2 on the PS3 was steams big suprise?
Kame: er, valves rather
tkmorris: is seems that way
tkmorris: that and steam for ps3
Kame: Worst suprise ever
tkmorris: no, it could've been "The surprise is... NO STEAM FOR LINUX!"
Kame: That would have been better than what they did
Kame: See, I don't care one way or the other whether they release anything on the PS3
tkmorris: so this shouldn't be bad nor good
Kame: Exactly, meaning worst suprise ever!
tkmorris: no steam for Linux would be worse
RambJoe: how come every time they release it on a new platform now though
RambJoe: they call it "open" :S
tkmorris: because it's better than calling it "closed"?
tkmorris: lol, steam announcement again
tkmorris: http://tremolo.edgesuite.net/clients/1084_google-youtube/002_ign_e3/index.html
Azalyn: did they actually call the PS3 an "open platform" too? :|
Azalyn: i think gabe newell is *full of shit*
