Rednaxela: You crazy people
bluekoala: I'm not a big fan of star trek
bluekoala: Light sabre > phaser
SageX: why?
bluekoala: Not enough action
bluekoala: Just a lot of talk about action
SageX: facepalm
DeathCrawler: ♬ Gamma Ray - 2 From The Ashes - Land Of The Free II (1:06/5:26 20%) Volume 100
SageX: star trek has more dynamic characters than star wars
bluekoala: WTF is that supposed to mean?
bluekoala: lol
Rednaxela: I have one thing to say: Jar Jar
bluekoala: I though anakin was pretty dynamic
Rednaxela: hides
SageX: just him
DeathCrawler: go to bed
bluekoala: Who's jar jar?
bluekoala: There never was a Jar Jar
DeathCrawler: see ya
SageX: JAR JAR BINX
bluekoala: Are we clear?
SageX: ruined ep. 1
bluekoala: See ya DeathCrawler
SageX: see ya
bluekoala: Jar Jar is like a cross dressing pedophile uncle....... just, no.....
bluekoala: I don't know of any Jar Jar
SageX: need to watch some star trek my friend
SageX: watch the very first movie and you will be hooked forever
bluekoala: I watched some with my roomates
bluekoala: They're big fans
bluekoala: And they raged when the played the MMO for about 3 weeks
bluekoala: They got all emotional and stuff
Rednaxela: Eh, never been big on the ST movies, despite quite liking the shows
bluekoala: It's something I would watch on a rainy day ....
bluekoala: ... if I didn't have the internet
Rednaxela: Also, I'll be blasphemous: DS9 > Original
bluekoala: DS9 had to be the least worst of IMO
bluekoala: There seemed to be more going on
bluekoala: Ooooo Misfits live concert
bluekoala: These facebook ads are starting to work on me
bluekoala: How did they know I like the misfits?
bluekoala: Fucken facebook; knows me better than my own mother
bluekoala: Anti flag?!?
bluekoala: Voivod?!?!!
SageX: facebook tracks your pandora usage I know
bluekoala: I don't even use pandora
SageX: I did
SageX: I don't log into facebook that much
SageX: just cause its like myspace..
bluekoala: It's like myspace for people who aren't emo's or skanks
SageX: too many drunken pictures of people that could ruin careers going on
bluekoala: I don't let people take pictures of me
bluekoala: Then again, I don't have a career to ruin
SageX: i got shit faced at this party once and someone took a picture of me after I puked
bluekoala: There's plenty of tech jobs out there
bluekoala: lol
SageX: and it was all over facebook
bluekoala: Did your HR dept. find out?
SageX: since then I only get shitfaced alone
SageX: no
bluekoala: I started raging once when I got shitfaced alone
bluekoala: So I went home
SageX: lol
bluekoala: And on the way, this bum asked me if I had change
bluekoala: So I screamed at him: "NO!!!!!!! DO YOU>??!?!?!"
bluekoala: And I bet he did
SageX: lol
SageX: I am not a angry drunk
bluekoala: I'm not usually
bluekoala: I think I was in dire need to fap while crying
bluekoala: I mean, to sleep
SageX: I don't really going to parties at this one guy's house
SageX: there's always something bad happening
bluekoala: What happens there?
bluekoala: Hmmm, bad things happen ok
bluekoala: Please elaborate
bluekoala: I like hearing about bad things
SageX: some kid always brings like a huge ammount of weed
bluekoala: For unknown reasons
SageX: and everyone smokes
SageX: then they realize most of those kids have parents to pick them up 20 mins later
bluekoala: That..... actually not a bad thing IMO
bluekoala: Oh what?
SageX: yea
bluekoala: Who do you party with anyway?
SageX: either that or they get shitfaced and have to drive home cause they said they were at a movie
SageX: just idiots
SageX: 17 to 20 yearolds
bluekoala: You should find better idiots to party with
SageX: yea
bluekoala: Do you live in the U.S.?
SageX: I have a feeling that isn't going to happen til I reach college
SageX: yes I do
bluekoala: Shitty
SageX: yes
bluekoala: Get the best of your idiots and travel to Montreal with them
bluekoala: It'll be the best time of your life
SageX: you live in Canada
bluekoala: Yes
SageX: lol
bluekoala: Legal drinking age in Montreal is 18
SageX: dang
bluekoala: DO IT!
SageX: heh
SageX: maybe college
bluekoala: =/
giselher: Legal drinking age in Austria is 16
SageX: cash is sparse
SageX: for everyone
bluekoala: The bar I got to the beer is 1.75
SageX: lol
bluekoala: And on Saturday night between 9pm and 12 it's 1$
bluekoala: It's made for poor people
bluekoala: I saw the basis from good charlotte there once
SageX: lol
bluekoala: *basist
bluekoala: I didn't recognize him
SageX: canada sounds awesome
bluekoala: Yes, our military is a small penis
bluekoala: That gets laid a lot
bluekoala: But doesn't brag too much
jelso: I saw the Canadian Air Force at a Ohio hotel once; piss drunk
bluekoala: Sounds like our air force
SageX: our military is quite awesome but I don't really care for the service uniform that much
bluekoala: Pilots are the small scrawny guys
SageX: lol
SageX: If I could I would wear the bdu constantly
bluekoala: Are you in the military?
SageX: I was thinking army
SageX: no
bluekoala: I was thinking military too
bluekoala: But then again, I realized that being a civil is important
SageX: theres a bunch of tech jobs in the military
bluekoala: In red alert, it's always the civilians that draw a smile on my face
SageX: lol
jelso: I was in the military for 9 years and I didn't do anything do fix aircraft avionics
SageX: airforce?
jelso: but, that's rare; I wouldn't recommend the military unless you're that type of person that loves the military lifestyle
jelso: yeah, air force
SageX: what is the life style like
jelso: well, in my job, it was okay
SageX: hmm
jelso: however, I had a rare job; military lifestyle is for those people that like, well... a military lifestyle
SageX: ok
jelso: I was sort of a civilian in uniform; I reported to more boeing people than AF
SageX: hmm
jelso: if you're smart enough though, you can get a job like that in the AF
SageX: was the acadamy hard?
jelso: I was enlisted
SageX: oh
jelso: I'm in university now
SageX: cool
jelso: some people love the AF; I liked it, but, I'm happier as a civilian
SageX: hmm
SageX: you took the asvab? (spelling)
jelso: yes
jelso: if you score high on the mechanical; logic and electronics; you will have an excellent job
jelso: if you don't score as well; you will have a gun and will guard a fence-line for 12 hours a day
SageX: does the test find what you want to do based on your score
jelso: the test determines one of three things: you are adept with technology, or, you are adept with administration, or you are not adept with either and you will be a cop/security guard
SageX: I am fairly smart I think i can score well
SageX: lol
SageX: nuke power is like a 80 same with FBI route
jelso: the benefits are excellent; the GI BILL is amazing; the government will pay the costs of college and housing
SageX: only if you were a 3.5 student and had decent SAT scores (rotc scholarship)
jelso: you'll probably do well... but, the thing with the military is that: NOTHING IS EVER GUARANTEED
jelso: that is rule no. 1
SageX: I may take the asvab just to see what I get
SageX: I see
bluekoala: Heh
SageX: I may take that test relatively soon and I will get back to you
bluekoala: I took an orientation test once
jelso: the USAF is the best route, if you go another route, then you better be a masochist
bluekoala: It suggested that I be a nuclear engineer
bluekoala: I lol'ed
SageX: nuke power
bluekoala: I could imagine myself turning Canada into chernobyl
SageX: cancer risks through the roof working in nuke power
bluekoala: I'm a smoker
jelso: cancer is everywhere
SageX: I am a dipper
SageX: enjoy emphysema
bluekoala: a.... dipper?
SageX: smokeless tobacco
bluekoala: You have succeeded in puzzling me
bluekoala: So how does that work?
bluekoala: You scab yourself and put tobacco on it?
SageX: take a pinch stick it on the bottom lip and as you collect saliva you spit
SageX: no burning no smoke
SageX: excellent lungs
bluekoala: Chewing tobacco huh?
SageX: yea
bluekoala: Yeah, I'm not a big fan
SageX: chew is a little different
bluekoala: I also tried snus
bluekoala: I almost died
bluekoala: I think
SageX: lol
bluekoala: It was a huge nicotine overload
bluekoala: Plus I was drunk
SageX: yea
bluekoala: My lungs felt raw and I wanted a moke
bluekoala: But couldn't have one
SageX: don't try it when your drunk
bluekoala: Because then I would puke
bluekoala: There's lots of things you shouldn't try when you're drunk
SageX: 1. driving
SageX: 2. irc
bluekoala: I did that
bluekoala: On private property
bluekoala: I did that too
mikeplus64: 3. Making lists of things you shouldn't try when you're drunk.
bluekoala: I get mechanical disfunctions when I'm too drunk
bluekoala: So I try not to have sex
SageX: lol bed I have exams tomorrow
SageX: night guys
bluekoala: Night
bluekoala: Make up your mind
bluekoala: HP to Google: Power Your Servers With Cow Poo
bluekoala: =/
bluekoala: HP is a BS company
Galaxy|: Google is its own Power Company now
Galaxy|: they harvest energy from the sun and wind
bluekoala: Yeah
bluekoala: Cow poo is bettter used as fertilizer
bluekoala: Keeps dry lands from becoming desert
achtung_: wat
achtung_: My head is full of fuck.
bluekoala: Here's something to help: http://www.news.com.au/national/ninjas-rescue-student-from-thugs/story-e6frfkvr-1225868928257
DonScott: is Cedega really better than Wine ?
rsk: ?
rsk: where did you get that from
DonScott: I didn't
rsk: then i don't understand
DonScott: I was wondering if it was better than Wine
rsk: in what way
DonScott: for games
rsk: that's a complicated question that's best answeared in this way: maybe
DonScott: meh....
neorazorx: Cedega is dead
DonScott: guess I'll hold of on it then
rsk: it's not dead
neorazorx: no updates since last year
DonScott: off*
th0br0: DonScott: cedega might have been better in the past
th0br0: but nowadays? no, wouldn't say so
th0br0: s/might have been/pretty much was/
mastertheknife: I have something installed in my system that makes GTK applications look just like Qt applications on KDE4 but no idea what is it
mastertheknife: Pidgin, Firefox, skype.. all use my kde4 colors and stuff, looks perfect
mastertheknife: its definitely not qtcurve, i dont seem to have that installed
sado1: gtk-qt-engine?
sado1: they use colours or oxygen (or whatever you've using on kde) theme too
sado1: ?
mastertheknife: I'm using oxygen theme yeah
mastertheknife: and black colors
mastertheknife: and yeah they all have the same colors
mastertheknife: sado1: Can't find a package gtk-qt-engine in gentoo
Azalyn: apparently cedega has support for more DRM schemes. because they're SELLOUTS.
Azalyn: but honestly, they are way out of date now.
th0br0: Yup.
Azalyn: see, many people complain about how stubborn julliard (project leader of wine) is about patch quality and what not. and they get pissed about things like how a DIB engine still hasn't merged after all these years...
sado1: the name differs through distros
Azalyn: but in the end... cedega does exactly the opposite.
Azalyn: they merge stuff even if it's a dirty hack.
christian_lappy: Azalyn: of what ?
christian_lappy: Azalyn: nope
Azalyn: you just joined, silence.
sado1: mastertheknife, x11-themes/gtk-engines-qt?
Azalyn: [10:24:26] see, many people complain about how stubborn julliard (project leader of wine) is about patch quality and what not. and they get pissed about things like how a DIB engine still hasn't merged after all these years...
mastertheknife: sado1: I tried that, no such package
Azalyn: that's what i said.
Azalyn: before you joined.
mastertheknife: sado1: there is qtcurve however, but thats not installed
sado1: can't remember what was the name but I've seen it in Gentoo
christian_lappy: Azalyn: cedega does not merge dirty hacks in
christian_lappy: Azalyn: thats all i have to they
mastertheknife: sado1: I have no x11-themes/* packages installed at all
christian_lappy: Azalyn: say
Azalyn: cedega does not have the same standards of quality, that's why they suck now. their codebase has mutated into an ugly beast.
christian_lappy: Azalyn: are you one of their devs ? or how to you get access to their codebase ?
sado1: x11-themes/kcm_gtk but it's not providing kde4 theme for gtk apps, just colors, fonts
sado1: you can choose gtk theme there
Azalyn: pretty much everything they've "contributed" to the wine project has had to be restructured like mad because it was just placeholder code that was able to get things "running", but was not a proper implementation of the library/component in question.
Azalyn: their source code used to be available online. under some restrictive license or whatever.
christian_lappy: only part of their code is avail to public
Azalyn: basically, they'll get an app running at all costs, even if it means not implementing the library the way windows does, and therefore breaking consistency with the original platform.
christian_lappy: anything to show to backup your claim ?
Azalyn: every part of their code was available, apart from the minor bits that were licensed from other companies, which is only the DRM components like safedisc/securom and so on.
christian_lappy: Azalyn: thats simply wrong !
Azalyn: why are you so defensive of them? heh.
christian_lappy: for gaming i still prefer it over wine
christian_lappy: their d3d implementation is better than the wine one
Azalyn: and it's not 'simply wrong' ... only the drm things are missing from the open code. if they've changed that, then that's not my fault. but that's how it's been from the beginning.
christian_lappy: Azalyn: the d3d code is not availible
christian_lappy: Azalyn: and as long as i can think of, it wasn't
christian_lappy: Azalyn: but i can speak only for some years now, not sure how it was at the beginning
Azalyn: i'm pretty sure it was. but it was not able to be merged into any other project because the license is drastically different.
Azalyn: which made the code useless.
christian_lappy: possible
Azalyn: you used to be able to download and compile the code yourself, and have a fully functioning cedega build, minus the DRM.
christian_lappy: no idea about that, really
christian_lappy: i know their are cvs versions, but not sure if d3d was part of that
christian_lappy: but i doubt that cause the d3d code is likely shared between all of their apps
christian_lappy: inlcuind cider and so on
Azalyn: there would be no point in using the cvs versions if they had no d3d implementation.
Azalyn: even when cedega was 'winex', it was still *only* good for games and nothing else, even back then wine was better at general purpose apps, and opengl apps.
Azalyn: so the CVS builds would be pointless
christian_lappy: Azalyn: wine is *WAYS* better in everything else than games
Azalyn: in any case, i've been following wine for a very long time now. i can guarantee to you that the standards of quality of wine are orders of magnitude higher.
Azalyn: even important work will not get merged unless it is an ideal and clean patch.
Azalyn: in fact, that is *exactly* one of the reasons that transgaming was founded in the first place.
Azalyn: because one of the developers got bitchy and frustrated with that pace of development..
Azalyn: and decided to fork it, and create a company around it.
Azalyn: that triggered a license change for wine, from the x11/mit license to the LGPL license.
christian_lappy: yeah, i remember
Azalyn: julliard's way is best. especially for a project like wine where you are trying to clone a piece of shit like windows. you *need* to take it slow, and make absolutely certain that everything you do is done *right*
christian_lappy: sure
christian_lappy: but the tg guys don't push hacky things in their codebase anymore
christian_lappy: Azalyn: do you know why some games work faster in cx than in wine ?
christian_lappy: anyway, i want a native steam now, damn it
DonScott: yeah
DonScott: me too
mastertheknife: they are probably working on it
mastertheknife: and don't want us to see it
mastertheknife: hehe
DonScott: sadly.....unless coding somehow becomes agnostic to the OS it's on...
DonScott: it's an uphill battle
mamalujo: Internet is truly brilliant; was just looking for Bartok's "Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion", and among the matches for that query, there was a torrent for "Two Hot Teens Have Anal Sex For First Time And Love It Xxx " lol
mamalujo: and when I type 'grosse fugue', the box suggest I might mean 'group sex' instead :)
DonScott: hahaha
Azalyn: [10:47:17] sadly.....unless coding somehow becomes agnostic to the OS it's on...
Azalyn: [10:47:52] it's an uphill battle
Azalyn: it was agnostic to begin with.
Azalyn: at least for C.
Azalyn: not assembly of course.
Azalyn: one of the C language's primary features at the time of it's introduction was exactly the fact that it was portable.
Azalyn: the state that exists today is 'unnatural'
Azalyn: and caused by companies trying their hardest to be uninteroperable.
Azalyn: like microsoft.
RambJoe: google are releasing an itunes store competitor :P
Azalyn: the 'natural' state of things is interoperability.
RambJoe: and music has no drm
RambJoe: any news on steam?
DonScott: no.....but TF2 updated again.
Azalyn: yes, we have news on the fact that there is no news.
RambJoe: :(
RambJoe: gabe hasn't replied to my email
RambJoe: can i plug harddrives in without restarting my pc?
Zerb_Riss: http://www.google.com
RambJoe: pac man
Zerb_Riss: yes
Zerb_Riss: playable and with sound
RambJoe: :D
mastertheknife: gabe hardly replies to emails
Zerb_Riss: unless you offer him money
RambJoe: :(
RambJoe: who at valve does
Azalyn: [11:22:28] can i plug harddrives in without restarting my pc?
Azalyn: with sata, yes.
RambJoe: thanks :D
mastertheknife: RambJoe: assuming you use the SATA power plug
RambJoe: i think i accidentaly made my 1.5tb a boot drive rofl
Azalyn: modern drives don't even have the legacy molex power plug anymore.
mastertheknife: Yeah but many of us still have old drives with it
mastertheknife: heh
Azalyn: orly? wow, talk about antiques.
mastertheknife: i have too many computers in this house
mastertheknife: around 8-9
RambJoe: oh yeah i have sata power :)
Zerb_Riss: lots of people have CD drives thatare ide
Azalyn: i don't have a single sata drive with the molex connector on it. :O
Zerb_Riss: anything that is not SATA will still have molex
mastertheknife: RambJoe: I believe they are simply not allowed to talk about steam for linux
RambJoe: i have ide cs drives :(
RambJoe: oh :(
mastertheknife: Probably only gabe is allowed to
RambJoe: holy shit i just noticed that google pacman isn't flash
RambJoe: yeah well they can't exactly fire gabe :P
mastertheknife: but he rather threat linux users like worms in a can
DonScott: wonders what would happen if Google made an Adroid desktop distro......
RambJoe: they're making chrome os
mastertheknife: I hope an announcement is soon
mastertheknife: we can't take this anymore
mastertheknife: 0 offical information from valve in 2 months
DonScott: yeah....but an Android distro sounds cooler.
RambJoe: it is open source isn't it?
RambJoe: so you could do it i guess
Nevtus: I can see google dumping the Chrome OS name and just calling it Android
Zerb_Riss: they will keep chromeos
Zerb_Riss: it's based on the browser integration
Nevtus: eh. I guess it all about which brand is more successful. Chrome or Android
RambJoe: can you put google tv on your pc?
Nevtus: when they release the source in 2011, I guess
RambJoe: :)
DonScott: now that would be awesome
Nevtus: XBMC and MythTV already exist though
Azalyn: that google pacman game might actually be downloadable... the google page doesn't seem to reference any external scripts.
RambJoe: 2011 damn too long
RambJoe: :)
Azalyn: it seems to be all embedded in just one html document.
RambJoe: i tried downloading the swf
Azalyn: it's not flash.
RambJoe: but mind = blown when i saw it was html / js
RambJoe: i know
maligor: they're also making google tv now
Azalyn: anyone here in windows?
Azalyn: try it in IE
Azalyn: i'm curious if it'll work
maligor: it?
RambJoe: how long has it been there
Nevtus: I think the whole point of them doing that is because it is NOT flash ;)
RambJoe: i didn't see it at school :S
Zerb_Riss: GoogleTV will probably be quite a bit more polished than XBMC or MythTV, and it also has an internet focus
RambJoe: yeah to go with webm :P
Azalyn: i'm wondering if it's html5
Azalyn: or just legacy.
maligor: Zerb_Riss, I doubt it
maligor: but possible I guess
maligor: it wouldn't be mythtv tho
Zerb_Riss: why wouldn't it be?
Zerb_Riss: they have COMMERCIAL support
Zerb_Riss: aka tons of money
Nevtus: throwing money at problems doesn't solve everything
maligor: I see they have googletv clip up now
Zerb_Riss: no but not having any money doesn't either :p
RambJoe: http://i.imgur.com/V4lTh.png ms pacman
Zerb_Riss: Google TV will have a set top box available this fall
maligor: I just want the sources
Zerb_Riss: and it's already set to be integrated into a bunch of Sony products
Nevtus: it's going about it the wrong way, it should be bringing TV to computers, not computers to TV
Zerb_Riss: -_-
Nevtus: TV is dead
Zerb_Riss: TV should be coiming to computers anyway
Zerb_Riss: but nobody is going to stop using their TVs and if you think they are, you are fooling yourself
Zerb_Riss: TV is "dead" for technology geeks, but the vast majority of human beings still own and watch television
RambJoe: my monitor has more pixels than any tv :P
SageX: lol
Nevtus: Zerb_Riss: current (and future) generations no longer depend on TV. Most students these days are happy with just a laptop
Zerb_Riss: I don't buy that at all
alexandernst_: agrees with Nevtus
maligor: tv is just a large video display
maligor: you're thinking about it the wrong way
maligor: and I'm not happy with a laptop, can't stand the form factor
Nevtus: BBC's iPlayer, Hulu, YouTube and so on all prove that people want TV style content on the computer, not the other way around
Zerb_Riss: they don't proive that
Zerb_Riss: they prove that people will watch TV content on the web, not that they only want it on the web
RambJoe: firefox need to add the webm firefox to their ppa
RambJoe: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-daily/+archive/ppa 3.7 should be that :)
maligor: who needs ff, chrome is just better
RambJoe: i prefer ff
Zerb_Riss: if anything, I'd say traditional TV is dying (watching shows when they are broadcast), but people are still watching TV on their TVs
maligor: actually I use chromium now tho
Zerb_Riss: maligor: that's debateable. Chrome is faster, but faster is not always better
maligor: firefox just always has had linux as a second rate customer
maligor: it was always slower in linux
Zerb_Riss: it works fine for me in Linux
maligor: it's slower than window
Zerb_Riss: memory usage is about the same as windows
Zerb_Riss: I don't notice it being slower than Windows
Nevtus: Zerb_Riss: my defintion of TV is linear content from major broadcasters, not a large LCD monitor
RambJoe: firefox is faster for me
Zerb_Riss: Nevtus: people are recording and/or watching TV shows on their TVs
maligor: the major reason I use chromium is that it doesn't suffer the lockups tho
maligor: firefox likes to freeze
RambJoe: just sometimes gets laggy at scrolling
maligor: chromium is immensely responsive
DonScott: has never liked firefox
skyhirider: meh, firefox freezes but i still like it more than chromium
Zerb_Riss: I don't have problems with Firefox freezing
Zerb_Riss: personally, I cannot live on the internet without AdBlock
skyhirider: you have more customizibility in ff now than in chromium
Zerb_Riss: if Chrome had a good alternative to that, I'd probably use it for day to day web browsing
skyhirider: you don't actually need adblock
skyhirider: http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/
Zerb_Riss: for web development, Firefox is still better
alexandernst_: says "Opera powaa!" (for linux)
maligor: how so?
Zerb_Riss: Firebug is lightyears ahead of the WebKit debugger
maligor: chrome has lots of fancy stuff
maligor: o'course I don't do devel :P
skyhirider: i cant use chromium on my neetbook with an ssd disk as it kills it with i/o while chaching and there is no option to disable it like on ff
alexandernst_: says "Dragonfly powaaa!"
Nevtus: there is nothing wrong with firefox, it's very stable for me.
Zerb_Riss: skyhirider: I'm not going to go dinking around with my hosts file just so I can kind of not really mimic the functionality of a Firefox extension
Zerb_Riss: :)
skyhirider: you add exceptions to your host file and youre good to go, got his tip from a good person on the phoronix forums
Zerb_Riss: anyway, I like Firefox and I like Chrome
Zerb_Riss: I think they are both great,m I just use Firefox
maligor: I don't mean full freezes, I mean the freezes where the ui stops responding for a few seconds
skyhirider: i know, i dont force anything on you :)
maligor: it just annoys me
Zerb_Riss: I don't get that maligor
skyhirider: btw, chrome cant block downloading html page elements to your pc
Zerb_Riss: unless the site I'm visiting is truly screwed up
skyhirider: Adblock for chrome works like this: you download a whole page with all the extra flashy blinking crap and after that the blocking addon just removes the stuff from viewin
skyhirider: g
Nevtus: I cannot use a browser without vimperator, noscript, adblock (yeah I know about custom hosts file too), firebug, and various other addons
maligor: Zerb_Riss, huh?
maligor: Zerb_Riss, if the site can screw up your viewer ui, the viewer is crap :P
Zerb_Riss: the Firefox UI doesn't stop responding for me
Zerb_Riss: if the site can freeze the program you're running for some reason?
skyhirider: so it stresses your net more than it should, plus you can see the page blink after you load it
skyhirider: until those flaws are fixed Chromium is a no go for me
Zerb_Riss: in Chrome, that would just crash a single tab, but that's because Chrome is designed to freeze/die that way
skyhirider: yeah, the page task manager is nice
Nevtus: and with webm, hopefully we won't have to for HTML5 video :)
Zerb_Riss: Firefox 4 is supposed to add per tab tasking
skyhirider: question is, is webm truly better for us as users
Zerb_Riss: anything that is not flash is better for us
skyhirider: as it does not matter if its commercial or not, the users dont usually pay for it, and the performance is in question
skyhirider: true that Zerb_Riss
skyhirider: at least flashblock works how its supposed to on Chromium, that it doesnt download flash
DeathCrawler: Chromium extensions sucks
DeathCrawler: ADBlock sucks, Flashblock sucks. :P
skyhirider: its not the extensions, its the limits of the browser itself
skyhirider: Tell me, who on earth would make a browser that cannot block selected elements of the page from downloading
Nevtus: a company that depends on forcing advertising?
skyhirider: yup, you win a cookie
skyhirider: the good thing is that the hosts file tweak bypasses the browser and is a system wide fix
skyhirider: the bad thing is that you tend to have empty white spaces where the ads used to be, instead of adblock reorganizing the page for your browsing pleasure
Zerb_Riss: I think that is just a limitation of WebKit, to be honest
skyhirider: could be, i haven't digged any deeper than that
mesula: Any Steam updates in the last couples of days?
Nevtus: not really. There was a Gabe interview which had some _possible_ hints a day or two ago
RambJoe: http://5by5.tv/conversation/16
maligor: webm becoming better for users depends entirely on how the sw patents pooling on it evolves
maligor: h264 will charge for playback also
mesula: Nevtus RambJoe: CBA to sit through all 61 minutes of that.
xorl: maligor, well I have a good feeling that the 'h264' patent pooling shit is heavily falsified, based on the fact that there are HUGE/MAJOR corporations basing off of webm
maligor: xorl, heh, you mean mpeg-la webm pooling
maligor: yeah, it could be FUD
xorl: google has complete access to the h264(mpeg-la) patent pool so they obviously know what LEGAL fud is there
maligor: I'm sure there's a few patents on webm outside of google tho
maligor: but...
xorl: they wouldn't have launched it w/out looking through the code base and verifying it all
maligor: yeah, it's not like they don't have the best search engines around for almost any content
xorl: yeah, or the best lawyers of most large corporations
xorl: http://www.webmproject.org/about/supporters/ <--- look at the LARGE companies supporting VP8/WebM
RambJoe: android :P
xorl: qualcomm, TI, nvidia, AMD, ARM broadcom oracle skype
RambJoe: will froyo get it?
xorl: adobe? haha firefox, i mean c'mon
maligor: interesting that sorenson would be on that list
maligor: they're the only codec r&d firm
RambJoe: apple don't like it lol
RambJoe: brb no flash or html5 on iphone
xorl: maligor, exactly.
xorl: So they have research companies and know what they were walking into.
maligor: most of the others are service or hardware firms
xorl: yep
maligor: big name hardware firms tho
xorl: and almost EVERY company there has H264 licenses haha
xorl: love to see what mpeg-la tries if they push the FUD campaign some more
xorl: then spit in steve jobs face
bluekoala: Isn't H264 an apple codec?
xorl: bluekoala, no. MPEG-LA.
maligor: well, biggest issue with h264 is the licensing to free software (Free or free)
maligor: isn't h264 from Real
maligor: or was that h263
bluekoala: No buffering is from real ;)
maligor: ah, nm, wrong way around
maligor: real based their codecs on h263
bluekoala: H.264/AVC is the latest block-oriented motion-compensation-based codec standard developed by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) together with the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG)
bluekoala: from wiki
bluekoala: I wonder if there's a "Creating video codecs for dummies" bookm out there
bluekoala: I found the problem: In countries where patents on software algorithms are upheld, vendors and commercial users of products that use H.264/AVC are expected to pay patent licensing royalties for the patented technology
bluekoala: We need to go to the supreme court
maligor: yeah, software patents are the big issue
maligor: you'd think all software companies would be against software patents by now
maligor: NPE trolls just eat their profits
bluekoala: I wonder how much it would cost to buy VCEG and MPEG?!
bluekoala: I like simple solutions
skyhirider: yes, buy it, buy it all ! :D
bluekoala: If my name was Mark Shuttleworth, I would buy lots of things
bluekoala: And then make them open
skyhirider: id say it would be hard to persuade the company that owns the stuff to get rid of it marketing wise
bluekoala: Not if you own them ;)
bluekoala: They're probably working on something better right now
bluekoala: And as soon as that is about to comes out and gets adopted, make the previous gen one free
skyhirider: what are the hints in the video, dont have the time to see it all
babai: check dis out http://is.gd/cjfmp
HideMe2: I keep getting a pts_gtk and gtkwindow errors when trying to run the test suite, anyone know how to fix these under Ubuntu?
bluekoala: Dirac supports resolutions up to HDTV (1920x1080) and greater and is claimed to provide significant savings in data rate and improvements in quality over video compression formats such as MPEG-2 Part 2, MPEG-4 Part 2 and its competitors, e.g. Theora, and WMV. Dirac's implementers make the preliminary claim of "a two-fold reduction in bit rate over MPEG-2 for high definition video",[11], which makes it comparab
bluekoala: Which version of ubuntu?
skyhirider: mac is more stable, that is obvious due to its closed nature, does not necessarily relate to linux in general
HideMe2: bluekoala 9.10
bluekoala: And Mac is also harder to break for average users
bluekoala: HideMe2: Does the test suite still run?
babai: I heard mac always runs on root account?
bluekoala: Possibly
HideMe2: bluekoala not in GUI mode
bluekoala: But not all that many things run on mac to begin with ;)
bluekoala: babai: I doubt it cause on my mom's Mac I think you have to put a password to do modifications
HideMe2: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php5/20060613/php_gtk2.so' - /usr/lib/php5/20060613/php_gtk2.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

bluekoala: That's interesting
bluekoala: Lemme check something
bluekoala: And BTW: If you go to google today, you can play pac man
DonScott: wants to play TF2 and Left4Dead.....not pac-man.
babai: pacman's better than tf2 and l4d
RambJoe: i want to play CSS beta
bluekoala: And it's on google
RambJoe: but cba to use windows
bluekoala: I have my very own religion where I am all: The pope, messiah and prophet
RambJoe: how do i make linux look for new harddrives
bluekoala: I have put a fatwa on Windows
bluekoala: You mean, mount them?
bluekoala: Or just have them show up in /dev/?
RambJoe: well i just plugged it in
babai: fdisk -l to list them
RambJoe: ok
RambJoe: nah only sees sda
babai: to see if its detected or not check end of dmesg
babai: dmesg | tail -5

bluekoala: Sounds like fun
RambJoe: lol wut bending down near my pc makes my ears get high pressure
babai: me too!
RambJoe: dem 38mm san aces
RambJoe: oh shit i think my 1TB drive is fucked
HideMe2: bluekoala
HideMe2: I have multiple hard drives in my system, how do I select which one I'd like to benchmark?
RambJoe: you can do it in disk utility
jumbers: I want a refund. This spider bite hasn't given me any superpowers, it just itches
DonScott: you have to wait to lay the spiderman eggs.
RambJoe: how do you fix bad sectors
jumbers: Call in the Enterprise

mastertheknife: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1173683&page=62
mastertheknife: pwned :)
bluekoala: HideMe2: I use hdparm to give me an idea of drive performance
mastertheknife: whats up with those forums.. he just posted that 30 minutes ago and already banned
RambJoe: lollo
bluekoala: HideMe2: Try: sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/(Your hard drive)
bluekoala: It not accurate but it gives you an idea
mastertheknife: Ah, this probably got him banned: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1277720
mastertheknife: lame moderators
Zerb_Riss: nice mastertheknife
jumbers: "TF2 will run natively on OSX, like an actual big boy game for adults."
Zerb_Riss: will it still be their proprietary opengl wrapper?
Zerb_Riss: ;)
RambJoe: how much are those seagate drives meant to be
DonScott: yeah.....it probably wasn't the best idea to announce that he pirated....
mastertheknife: DonScott: Still.. he admitted he did a mistake
mastertheknife: why ban him from forums
mastertheknife: how would that help
RambJoe: lol brb never talking about pirating on steam forums
mastertheknife: so useless
jumbers: Why admit it in the first place?
bluekoala: DonScott: It was a great idea, it shows that steam is an answer to piracy
Zerb_Riss: they probably deleted the post he was banned for
mastertheknife: I think the forum moderators are just ban happy
Zerb_Riss: some of them are for sure
bluekoala: I would be too if I had a tiny .....
mastertheknife: They also banned dusty_fox from this channel
Zerb_Riss: Valve doesn't police their moderators enough, imo
Zerb_Riss: one guy got banned on there because he disagreed with a moderator
mastertheknife: a lot
RambJoe: gabe should post on the forums
mastertheknife: anyone knows why was dusty_fox from this channel was banned 1-2 days ago ?
bluekoala: I can scroll up and find out
DonScott: still...not a good idea to say you pirate stuff and want to steam to come to linux.
RambJoe: aw hell naw now we look bad
bluekoala: I used to pirate stuff when I was in school, homeless and had no job
bluekoala: But then I graduated, got a job, got a real PC and started buying my own stuff
bluekoala: Oh yeah, got an appartment too
bluekoala: With electricity!
bluekoala: :D
RambJoe: i dont tust seagate their drives keep failign
bluekoala: That's why I only buy WD
bluekoala: I had 1 WD fail on me
bluekoala: Out of about 12
bluekoala: I have 5 Maxtors fail on me
RambJoe: oh shit
bluekoala: Out of 5
RambJoe: the jumper is fucked up
DonScott: the last time any harddrive faile on me was back in 1998
RambJoe: i think i accidently rammed it whne i plugged sata in wrong port
DonScott: failed*
bluekoala: Yeah
bluekoala: I think my WD that failed was due to heat; it had no airflow going to it
bluekoala: 200gb stata
bluekoala: my IDE 120gb is still going strong
bluekoala: And loud for that matter
mastertheknife: bluekoala: me too, when i was a kid i pirated many things, i had no money and definitely didn't have a PC. Now everything i own is legit (well except 1 program)
mastertheknife: didn't have a CC*
RambJoe: how to fix the jumper lol?
bluekoala: It's a jumper
bluekoala: Are the pins still good?
RambJoe: no
bluekoala: Then it's fucked
RambJoe: :'(
RambJoe: well they're bent
bluekoala: They're still good
mastertheknife: LOL now they even deleted his thread
bluekoala: Unbend them a bit
mastertheknife: crappy moderators
bluekoala: And put your jumper through
mastertheknife: Yeah, just unbend the pins
RambJoe: how do jumpers actually work :s
bluekoala: The close an electrical circuit
bluekoala: That's all
DonScott: use a flathead screwdriver or small pliers to unbend them
babai: I have a 30gb(ya read it right) maxtor 6 years and running with no issues
RambJoe: the pins don't connect anyway
RambJoe: oh i dont plug the cable in this
bluekoala: Maxtor for 6 years running is the part I'm skeptical about
bluekoala: =/
bluekoala: Are you a software engineer?
bluekoala: ooooo oooo; how many software engineers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
bluekoala: They can't; it's a hardware problem XD
maligor: how many hardware engineers does it take then?
babai: and guess what it has windows 7 installed with cs:source
bluekoala: 1
maligor: They can't; it's a manufacturing problem
bluekoala: Hehehe
bluekoala: They'll RAM the building :P
bluekoala: *RMA
RambJoe: what is meant to go in the port that has teh jumper
mastertheknife: RambJoe: nothing
mastertheknife: RambJoe: a jumper
RambJoe: oh
mastertheknife: RambJoe: a jumper is to close an electrical circuit
RambJoe: oh, but how come the pins dont touch :S
mastertheknife: RambJoe: you should look at jumper settings for your drive
mastertheknife: RambJoe: they touch when you put the jumper on them
DonScott: little black cover usually fits over 2 of the jumpers
mastertheknife: exactly
bluekoala: RambJoe: The jumper is what makes the pins touch
RambJoe: ohh
RambJoe: it looks like it was in the right two
DonScott: facepalms
RambJoe: but the jumper is screwed up lol
bluekoala: DonScott facepalmed so hard he broke his wrist
mastertheknife: RambJoe: the jumper makes a connection between two pins.. not by bending them but by having a metal touch both of the pins
RambJoe: oh i get it thanks
RambJoe: so if i have no jumper does it work
mastertheknife: RambJoe: each drive has different jumper configuration usually
mastertheknife: need to check online
bluekoala: The jumper is not always necessary especially for sata
RambJoe: oh
bluekoala: You have to know what the jumper does
mastertheknife: there are configurations to disable sata2, to limit the drive to 32GB, to enable\disable 4K sectors emulation, etc
bluekoala: Read what it says on the HDD
bluekoala: IT should tell you what the jumper is for
RambJoe: looks like it was in limit to 1.5gbps LOL
bluekoala: That doesn't matter cause your HDD isn't that fast anyway
bluekoala: That's like 185MB/s
mastertheknife: The 4K (4096 bytes) sector drives from Western Digital are a joke, they made a jumper to fix Windows XP's offsetting that impacts 512 byte sector emulation, instead of making a jumper to enable\disable 512byte sector emulation
bluekoala: I never had such problem
mastertheknife: so technically people are buying WD 4K sector drives (instead of 512) but only internally, outside they use 512byte emulation
mastertheknife: we need real 4K sector drives
DonScott: they wont make them until windows only has 33% market share though.
RambJoe: doesn't windows support?
mastertheknife: It does
RambJoe: i wish ms would just add ext4...
RambJoe: oh
maligor: they should just ditch all windows support
RambJoe: yeah
mastertheknife: you can format almost any partition today for 4096 bytes/sector
bluekoala: lol
RambJoe: so should ati and nvidia to make steam hurry up
mastertheknife: NTFS by default is already 4096 bytes/sector
RambJoe: why is the maximum file size on ext4 2tb :(
DonScott: right now everything revolves around microsoft because it's on most peoples computers. Only when that changes will companies start to back all 3 OS.
mastertheknife: http://hothardware.com/Articles/WDs-1TB-Caviar-Green-w-Advanced-Format-Windows-XP-Users-Pay-Attention/
maligor: RambJoe, how large a file do you need?
mastertheknife: http://hothardware.com/articleimages/Item1466/Misalignment.jpg
RambJoe: well it ruins epeen lol
maligor: RambJoe, fs limitations are usually dictated by sensible needs
mastertheknife: DonScott: but microsoft is not the problem, NTFS by default is 4096 bytes/sector. Its WD refusing to make a real 4K sectors drive
maligor: the larger the limits, the most space you'll spend to store them
maligor: Do they other mfgs make real 4k sector drives?
mastertheknife: 512 bytes emulation on the interface is just causing problems
mastertheknife: no its new
mastertheknife: well not that i know of
maligor: think of the devastation it would cause dos
mastertheknife: I recommend reading that article, its interesting and shows the problem with the emulation and offsetting
mastertheknife: http://hothardware.com/Articles/WDs-1TB-Caviar-Green-w-Advanced-Format-Windows-XP-Users-Pay-Attention/
maligor: 64mb cache huh.. nice
RambJoe: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-327-WD&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1279
RambJoe: doesn't say rpm :(
DonScott: was pointing out the ati/nivida thing and gaming mastertheknife
DonScott: but yeah
DonScott: once people demand it, they will make it
RambJoe: i demand it
DonScott: in large numbers
bluekoala: I have 2 WD green 1.5TB's
bluekoala: They work quite well
bluekoala: I ahve them in Raid0
bluekoala: Though my write speed is actually faster than my read speed
bluekoala: Which I found quite odd
Nevtus: another user banned in the linux steam threads. hmm
bluekoala: Nazi mods
maligor: which threadS?
maligor: on steam forums?
bluekoala: Can someone find out which mod is doing this?
bluekoala: I think I can write a letter
bluekoala: Not in the forums of course
DonScott: how do you force tf2 into Direct X 8 ? won't let me change it within the game.
bluekoala: Might be a launch command
Zerb_Riss: why do people keep getting banned?
bluekoala: DonScott: try launching with -dxlevel 8
bluekoala: sorry, try -dxlevel 80 or 81
DonScott: yeah but how do i launch with it at -dxlevel 81 ?
bluekoala: via wine?
bluekoala: Create a batch file
bluekoala: Like in the good old dos days
maligor: wine supports bat?
bluekoala: Hmmm
DonScott: booooo
bluekoala: Not sure
bluekoala: Hang on
bluekoala: You're running steam?
DonScott: yeah
bluekoala: There should be launch options via steam
Zerb_Riss: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=15060207#post15060207
bluekoala: Right click on the game
bluekoala: Or something
bluekoala: :P
bluekoala: Inyhoo, I gtg to work
bluekoala: Laters
christian_lappy: needs steam
mastertheknife: Nevtus: snake1?
DonScott: man....i hope steam doesn't go from the mac strait to the mobile and bypass linux in the process.
Nevtus: mastertheknife: yeah, why was he banned?
mastertheknife: Nevtus:
maligor: DonScott, err..What?
mastertheknife: Nevtus: he made a thread where he said that in the long past he pirated 250 games including steam ones but now he bought them all and many more and apologized for being a pirate
mastertheknife: Nevtus: So stupid to ban a person for that
maligor: DonScott, there's no space in the mobile sector for steam
maligor: unless you mean a steam chat client
mastertheknife: Nevtus: I would link you to the thread but its deleted now.. although people here saw it before it was deleted, maybe they have it in their cache
maligor: and it'd more or less be wasted effort anyway
DonScott: you never know....steam sells a lot of casual games too
maligor: DonScott, which platform would they go for? Android?
maligor: All the platforms have their own marketplaces now
maligor: Unless valve makes ValveOS for Mobile, they have no space
mastertheknife: Nevtus: Some moderators are very ban happy it seems. you can get banned for not agreeing with a moderator etc
DonScott: Gabe did say he was watching to see what google does.
DonScott: maybe google tv is next for all i know
maligor: next? for valve?
maligor: I expect GoogleTV is based on ChromeOS
The_Muh: chromeOS... long time ago that i heard any news about it
maligor: you can download chromeos if you want
maligor: it's basically just linux + chrome
maligor: the chromewebstore is sort of a nessesary step for it too
maligor: until they get it working, chromeos is rather lame
mastertheknife: Nevtus: what do you think about his ban? fair or not?
Nevtus: not fair
mastertheknife: yeah
Nevtus: did they ban his steam account too?
mastertheknife: i would have linked you to his thread but its gone
mastertheknife: no dont think so
mastertheknife: he didnt put account details
mastertheknife: Nevtus: any idea why is dusty_fox from this channel banned?
Nevtus: a thread about steam getting him back into paying for games shouldn't get you banned from the steam forums
Nevtus: no idea
Nevtus: if you flick through the pages of the linux threads there are a few more
Nevtus: it's probably just a coincidence, these forums are moderated very hard in general it seems
mastertheknife: too many ban happy moderators
Nevtus: mastertheknife: I think that's happens to most huge forums. For some reason at a certain size forums move from a community to a school playground
Tazer: :U
Tazer: Guys, is there a way to get compiz to save it's settings after it's disabled?
Azalyn: Tazer: shooting your PC with an AK will probably work.
Azalyn: maybe.
mastertheknife: michaellarabel: possible spambot: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23932
maligor: mm.. getting a AK variant is always tempting
maligor: a friend has one with a silencer and red dot
tkmorris: cheap shoes are important for gaming
mastertheknife: I never had an AK47 but i had an m4a1.. cool gun
maligor: well, the finnish army guns are ak variants
maligor: except more precise machining
maligor: you can get non-automatic versions of the gun here for maintaining your skills
maligor: and legal silencer and other stuff ;P
Tazer: No dice, Alazyn!
Tazer: bullet bounced off or something. it's in my leg now.
maligor: always found it amusing that you can get the same gun just without automatic
maligor: they even teach you not to use automatic in the army, except in a mad assault
cmdrk: i want to go home and play battlefield now :(
mastertheknife: cmdrk: which version ?
cmdrk: bad company 2 on pc has kept me pretty entertained
maligor: 2142 is def the best battlefield
mastertheknife: oh
mastertheknife: I only have 1942 and BF2 collectors edition
cmdrk: ahh
cmdrk: Bad Company 2 reminds me a lot of BF2
maligor: bc2 is very arcade
maligor: it's like battlefield without any strategy
mastertheknife: BF2 is nice but the anti plane guns are very nerfed down
maligor: 2142 wasn't perfect, but it has cool vehicles, nice guns and the titan gameplay was interesting
maligor: like a better version of bf2 in many ways
mastertheknife: rofl: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1277943

somename: yeah
The_Muh: does it not exist in other countrys?
Nevtus: is that Dove handcream on that mcdonalds guy's desk
somename: lol
Nevtus: yes. lol indeed
somename: they deleted the thread... damn
maligor: didn't know they used handcream in burgers
somename: or, no
mastertheknife: they deleted it in off topic
somename: they didnt... my bad
mastertheknife: but in general it still exists
Nevtus: I don't want to think about what he uses of that handcream for
Nevtus: *he uses that
mastertheknife: he said its from a previous camp
mastertheknife: camp trip or something
Nevtus: yeah right
Flyser_: did anyone manage to get fonts working in steam yet?
Flyser_: or any other improvements?
Nevtus: I think everyone gave up getting that broken binary to work
mastertheknife: espes almost got fonts working
Nevtus: haha, that guy got banned
somename: but now that thread is really deleted
Flyser_: mastertheknife: I saw the screenshot with the black bars. Is that what you mean?
The_Muh: own'd
mastertheknife: Flyser_: Yeah but he also made another

Nevtus: did he really deserve to get banned for that?
tkmorris: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/05/oscar-winning-lightworks-open-source.html
somename: yep. because he made us hungry
The_Muh: maybe gabe dont like mcdonalds

The_Muh: any updates in the binarys?
The_Muh: adds "from valve"
mastertheknife: Nevtus: who got banned?
mastertheknife: Nevtus: the mcdonlads guy?
somename: that mcdonalds guy
mastertheknife: Nevtus: lol..
mastertheknife: well he did do something wrong, but if i was a mod i wouldn't ban i would just warn
maligor: Isn't not liking mcdonalds pretty much universal?
maligor: it only looks good if you're really drunk
The_Muh: he made gabe hungry - gabe ate him
mastertheknife: wow hes really banned it seems
somename: man... this damn pacman game at google

rsk: STEAM ON LINUX CONFIRMED!!!
wao: damnit
rsk: by phoronix
rsk: (LOL)
wao: what now
RambJoe: srs?
mikeplus64: lives in the southern hemisphere, you insensitive clod! Summer ended in February! Will I have to wait until then?
BurgerKing: The end of winter
BurgerKing: You sensitive clod
BurgerKing: is going to google to see what clod actually means
Daekdroom: thinks people should learn how to use /me
RambJoe: lol
Daekdroom: That should have been a "lols"
BurgerKing: agrees
BurgerKing: If toilets in the southern hemisphere flush the other direction
BurgerKing: What does that mean for toilets on the equator?
DonScott: they're confused
Daekdroom: They don't flush the other direction
BurgerKing: They shoot straight back at you? :p
Daekdroom: They flush to the center of the earth
BurgerKing: I meant clockwise/counter-clockwise
Daekdroom: Is there such difference between hemispheres? O.o
DonScott: get a digital toilet and you should have no worries
BurgerKing: Toilet 2.0, now with adsense!
BurgerKing: Does it support compositing?
Daekdroom: No, but it doesn't come with pulseaudio
BurgerKing: So it only supports 1 audio stream?
mikeplus64: dmix ftwtwtwtw.
Daekdroom: Does it need more than 1 audio stream?
BurgerKing: Yeah
BurgerKing: What if I want to listen to mp3's while it's flushing?
BurgerKing: Which stream gets priority?
Daekdroom: Why hear the flushing sound?
BurgerKing: For legacy washroom compatibility
Daekdroom: Oh no. It has a design flaw.
BurgerKing: We should add a feature called fart cancellation
BurgerKing: So that everytime the frequncy of fart is detected, the sound of chewy chebacca comes on
manaphuun: hey guys
manaphuun: any news?
rsk: sure
rsk: what kind of news do you want
Kvisle: my cousin had a baby a few days ago
Kvisle: does that count?
manaphuun: sure, STEAM ON LINUX CONFIRMED!
rsk: (by phoronix)
rsk: LOL
rsk: means much
Kvisle: *facepalm*
javashin: ?
stealth-: Has it ever been considered to include sauerbraten in the benchmarks?
stealth-: (Cube 2: Sauerbraten)
stealth-: It's a game much like some of the ones already included, and, from what I've seen, is just as popular
rsk: probably
BurgerKing: Sauerbraten soundds like somethingto put on a hotdog
mikeplus64: Sauerbraten is an awesome game.
Rednaxela: Never tried Sauerbraten, but what sounded most interesting about it to me was it's in-game editing
kurros: red alert!
Daekdroom: Red alert?
rsk: r
rsk: green warning!
kurros: dunno just seemed like a good thing to yell in a crowded room
Daekdroom: This channel doesn't feel crowded at all
kurros: true fat
kurros: er dat
wait4steam: hi all
wait4steam: is the linux steam client url still forbidden?
Rednaxela: Mhmm
Rednaxela: I'd expect it to stay this way until they announce it or cancel it, whichever comes first
Modplan: You make it sound like they're going to announce it, then cancel it
Modplan: Gabe: "hahahahah, fuck you penguins!"
Modplan: or announce that they've cancelled it
Rednaxela: Haha
Rednaxela: Not what I meant to make it sound like.... but yeah
rsk: announcing they cancelled it
rsk: that would be pretty awesome
kurros: lol
Daekdroom: "We were planning to have a linux client, but we decided to cancel it before we even announced."
kurros: we were going to but changed our mind and are going to develop steam for blackberry os
Sleepy_Coder: Valve is the king of trolling, I wouldn't be surprised :p
rsk: phoronix would implode
mikeplus64: "We were planning to announce the cancellation of the Linux client announcement but this was cancelled."
Sleepy_Coder: haha
Sleepy_Coder: "Really, we through this client together over a Saturday Brunch, those 2 years of speculation on a Linux client were all too funny to us."
Sleepy_Coder: er... threw*
Sleepy_Coder: can't wait for his 140mm fan to get here :(
Sleepy_Coder: I want it so bad :x
Sleepy_Coder: 95CFM @ 12-16dB
Sleepy_Coder: <3 Noctua
mikeplus64: The computer I used to use sounded like a lawnmower.
Sleepy_Coder: I need to replace my PSU with something much quieter under full load.
Sleepy_Coder: Too bad you can't find fanless PSUs @ 700W or above :(
Sleepy_Coder: Or at least I couldn't.
Daekdroom: It'd be kinda expensive o.o
Sleepy_Coder: Also want it to meet the 80 Plus Gold standard for 90% efficiency at full load :(
Sleepy_Coder: I'd be fine with one that had a fan if it ran under 30dB @ full load
Daekdroom: There is never a product that's perfect for you. Fact..
Sleepy_Coder: But you don't really find PSUs being advertised by their noise...
Daekdroom: It'll always lack something, or have something you don't need..
Sleepy_Coder: Daekdroom: DIE
Sleepy_Coder: Also picked up a trusty 3.5G tube of Arctic Silver as I had to use the cheap stuff to improvise between CPU coolers :(
Daekdroom: It's either too big, too noisy, too hot, too small, not powerful enough etc..
Daekdroom: It has a expensive useless feature and so on.
Sleepy_Coder: I tried the Corsair H50 Liquid Cooling System and it was... well not really remarkable.
Sleepy_Coder: Wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular for the price either.
Sleepy_Coder: (imo)
Daekdroom: There's that too.
Daekdroom: Overpriced.
Sleepy_Coder: Took it back and put Intel's stock cooler back on.
Sleepy_Coder: Though Intel's cooler is actually surprisingly quiet. I had thought the onise was ccoming it from it but it turned out to be my cheapo PSU
Sleepy_Coder: 500W PSU for $20 at the time. :\
Sleepy_Coder: People always say not to get a cheap PSU, and I said that they were just fine. Imo they still are, I just didn't expect noise to be a factor.
Daekdroom: I'm not sure how things are out there where you live, but was that an actual 500W PSU or was it marketing bullshit?
Sleepy_Coder: And the noise wasn't even a problem until I got the i5, definitely draws more power I thinks :\
Sleepy_Coder: It is an actual 500W PSU.
Daekdroom: Where I live I can easily find 300W PSUs being labeled as 700W due to "performance peaks"
Sleepy_Coder: It was from Fry's for $20 for a week
Sleepy_Coder: http://www.frys-electronics-ads.com/ads/2010/05/21/48091/Thermaltake-TR2-RX-750W-Power-Supply >.>
Sleepy_Coder: Hmm, 80 Plus Silver :(
Sleepy_Coder: is trying to be concious about energy efficiency with this next upgrade, don't laugh at me :p
Sleepy_Coder: Money is no object, I am a rich fgt.
Daekdroom: Energy efficiency? Aren't you rich?
Sleepy_Coder: It makes me sleep sounder at night :p
Daekdroom: I don't believe in saving the planet, but I don't believe in paying too much cash for energy either..
Sleepy_Coder: http://www.frys-electronics-ads.com/ads/2010/05/21/48056/Seagate-2TB-Serial-ATA-300-Hard-Drive that would be fun :x
Sleepy_Coder: http://www.frys-electronics-ads.com/ads/2010/05/21/48060/Diamond-Radeon-HD5750-1GB-PCI-Express-Video-Card ahh i came
Sleepy_Coder: Now that would be a lot more fun
Daekdroom: That HD would cost about 3 times as much where I live, after money conversion
Sleepy_Coder: Stop living off-planet where the shipping is a bitch?
Daekdroom: I mean buying it locally.
Sleepy_Coder: hehehe
Daekdroom: Buying it from overseas could be cheaper.
Daekdroom: even with the 70% tax
Sleepy_Coder: good god ati cards are so much shorter
Sleepy_Coder: Shucks, the card doesn't really outperform my GTX 260.
Sleepy_Coder: Not... fair...
Daekdroom: What about energy efficiency?
Sleepy_Coder: I think the GTX 260 was 110W at full load, 5750 was 90W
Sleepy_Coder: Not really enough of a reason to throw down money :(
Sleepy_Coder: Anyway, I have to be off to class >.< Today I get to do nothing (aside from laugh at people giving presentations unsatisfactorially)
Sleepy_Coder: runs off to play
Daekdroom: Hm.. Buying a 2TB HDD from amazon.com would cost me ~70% it'd cost buying locally..
Daekdroom: I feel like starting to set fire on hardware stores near where I live...
DeathCrawler: GTX 260 is good in Linux? Im planning to have one
mastertheknife: nvidia is good in linux
mastertheknife: so i believe that would be no exception
DeathCrawler: hum...
DeathCrawler: But i have one 9800GT
DeathCrawler: i will wait for next generation
mastertheknife: DeathCrawler: Yeah, no point in buying now, the 9800GT is still new and can run almost anything at high
DeathCrawler: yep\
mastertheknife: You should wait until the 4XX series (OpenGL 4.0) cards drop in price or wait for another 4.0 cards
mastertheknife: I have a 8800GT, which is the same chip as yours (G92) just clocked a bit less, but its still new so i'm waiting another year or two
DeathCrawler: yea
DeathCrawler: mastertheknife: 9800GT dont will have OGL 4?
mastertheknife: DeathCrawler: no, need dx11 hardware for OpenGL 4.0
DeathCrawler: :<
mastertheknife: DeathCrawler: OpenGL 3.2 is what the 8800gt and 9800gt got
DeathCrawler: mastertheknife: OGL 4 have the same features of D3D 11, make sense
mastertheknife: yeah
BurgerKing: Anyone here in canada?
rsk: canada is here?
rsk: fuck i've been missing out
rsk: gimmed some of that bc bud
andar: we export a lot of it
andar: the foolish americans are willing to pay a lot for it
rsk: exporting always upps the price
rsk: middlehands getting paid
mastertheknife: I have a dead pixel which is not really dead
mastertheknife: this is so weird
mastertheknife: i can hide it by putting a window on it, lol
mastertheknife: and it only seems to come from Opera
mastertheknife: probably an Opera bug
jumbers: mastertheknife: That's funny, I did too...
jumbers: Where abouts was it?
jumbers: Also what version?
Wicked: mastertheknife, http://flexcode.org/lcd.html
Wicked: oh should fully read....it was a dot in opera
