Snakehand: Hi, I am having trouble to get both ATI HD 5850 cards running X with the latest 9.12 (hotfix) drivers. When I enable the second "screen" (no monitor attached) X just "hangs" with a black screen
Snakehand: Any clues ?
GNU\colossus: Snakehand: try asking in #ati
Snakehand: Funny thing is it works if I connect with x11vlc (remotely), but when I move the mouse even the vnc connection stops recieving mouse and keyboard input, but continues to give display updates-
Kano: attach monitor, gives more sense
Snakehand: #ati sendt me here ...
GNU\colossus: lol
Snakehand: I don't want monitor, just GPU :-)
Kano: ?
Kano: do you need a monitor for opencl?
Snakehand: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLX01LYS-24
Snakehand: I only have 1 monitor.
Kano: maybe connect both cables ;)
Snakehand: Do you suppose it is trying to probe the second monitor , and thats why it hangs
Kano: lots of tft have got 2 or even 3 connectors
Snakehand: Is this a known issue then ?
Kano: i dont know anybody that want to start without connected monitor
Snakehand: Well, I have 1 monitor
Snakehand: :-p
Kano: why dont you use crossfire?
Snakehand: I haven't tried that
Kano: then you only need one monitor
Snakehand: But don't I still have to configure 2 devices in xorgs.conf to access both GPUs ?
Kano: no
Snakehand: Wl it is worh a try.
Snakehand: Is there any drawbacks with crossfire ?
Kano: no idea
Kano: it is for playing games on 2 gpus
Snakehand: I was afraid I would end up getting less GFX memory
Kano: sure that clear
Kano: you get the memory of one card
Snakehand: I think I'll try connecting an old VGA cable first then ...
Az|too: anyone remember the package manager for the OLPC? I hadnt logged into mine in a year or so
Az|too: and google saves the day
