Kano: hi michaellarabel
Kano: did you see tesselation with linux yet
Kano: hi maligor
Kano: michaellarabel: btw:
Kano: checking fglrx-packaging.diff:
Kano: 13 files changed, 13 insertions(+)
maligor: hey
deif_: is there a test for font rendering speed in pts?
Plagman_: jxrendermark has a text test
Plagman_: that goes through the same paths as your daily font rendering with eg. firefox
deif_: thanks
Kano: michaellarabel: could you test pts 2.4 with kanotix please
Kano: it does not finish even with the simplest tests
Kano: so i can not update pts
Kano: ./phoronix-test-suite gui
Kano: used with
Kano: Strict Standards: Only variables should be passed by reference in /tmp/phorogit/phoronix-test-suite.git/pts-core/options/gui_gtk.php on line 544
Kano: as error
Kano: 7zip installed, selected to test it, disabled both options
Kano: and the gui does not go away which sowas pts 0 complete 2 times
Kano: michaellarabel: you find test images on http://kanotix.com on left side
Kano: 64 bit has got pts 2.0.0 but i would like to update it, but it has to work
kdas: Kano: you in ?
kdas: Has anyone unpacked ce* from expressgate yet ?
kdas: i am in the process (half done) of booting a complete personal distro (currently puppy but will change to tinycore) in place of express gate. However the ce* bootloader is pissing me off because no matter what you still have to click one of the launchers
kdas: i also found that the cefull is a msdos .com file which makes sense why it has to be fat32 or ntfs so amybe some reverse engineering would allow us to replace it?
Kano: could you start cefull?
Kano: with syslinux chain.c32 or so?
Kano: i did not look at eg for some time, had enough to do with kanotix
Kano: you use original asus hardware?
kdas: sorry
kdas: i was afk
kdas: Kano: yes i have an asus g51j
kdas: witht he hdd install
kdas: with the*
kdas: i am not to adept with syslinux. So, have not tried to start with it
Kano: i do not own asus hardware
Kano: so eg is not so interesting for me ;)
kdas: that sucks, if you live in cali i will lend you my gear ;)
kdas: i see..
kdas: did you ever get a reply back from that guy that said he had the source for ce*?
Kano: usally eg does not gain much speed
Kano: because it is a fake
Kano: ce is shown immediately
Kano: ok, but thats with grub too usally
kdas: for me my old standard asus laptop i had tinycore on a separate partition which i could boot via grub which was much faster then EG
kdas: but since i have the option i was trying to figure this out
kdas: i might just result in modding the bios and removing it completely if possible
kdas: i would just like to know how to get rid of that stupid fake splash screen
kdas: so i guess its just useless now that you have no interest haha you were the one hacking the sh*t out of it
Kano: i only modified the menu
Kano: with differnt pics
Kano: maybe you saw the script
kdas: well i was referring to it as a whole
kdas: yes i did i saw all your work
kdas: impressive
Kano: well gif images have got a unique header so you could extract em
kdas: its just this CE* problem that is getting to me.. i might have to result in reverse engineering the com file my self, even though i forgot most of my reverse engineering skills when i did away with windows many moons back
Kano: i could not rebuild it from scratch
kdas: there is a hidden init and kernel in there some where too which is pissing me off. Also, the ce.cex file has a debian package under some prefix crap which i can't extract
Kano: you mean the kernel.bin
kdas: no
kdas: i mean the ce.cex the kernel.bin i haven looked at yet
Kano: i dont think that this file is used at all, did you try to erase
kdas: !
kdas: debian-binary 1253161089 0 0 100644 4 `
kdas: control.tar.gz 1253161089 0 0 100644 407 `
kdas: sorry for flood thought it was only 2 lines
superdump: by the way Kano, with the radeon 9200SE (RV280) using the free radeon xorg driver in ubuntu 9.10, there are two ways to improve basic 2D windowing performance back to what they were
superdump: when upgrading the default accelmethod changed from XAA to EXA
superdump: it seems by default this doesn't perform too well on this card
Kano: yes thats needed for new cards
superdump: so one could change back to XAA
kdas: superdump: how is ati these days i had to sell my last laptop cuz it sucked to bad with 3D and xorg 1.7?
superdump: but that's not going to be maintained much from now i guess
superdump: well that's a pretty old card now so...
superdump: it's been left out of the catalyst drivers for a while
kdas: well though i would ask Kano about any updates i missed i guess i havent.
kdas: thought*
superdump: i'd steer clear myself
kdas: i had one of the newer cards
Kano: kdas: i usally only tried eg in vbox and on a gigabyte g33 board from usb drive
kdas: catalyst don't play well with 1.7 last time i had it
superdump: erm, the other option is to set the AGPSize option to the amount of ram on the card (128 in my case)
kdas: Kano: yea i understand, too bad no one broke the CE* stuff yet
superdump: and maybe specify the Virtual desktop size to your actual desktop size in a subsection in xorg.conf
superdump: i can dig out the link if needed
superdump: either way offers reasonable performance
superdump: i'd say XAA seems a bit less quirky, but i guess EXA will be the way forward
superdump: so i've left the machine configured with EXA, AGPSize 128 and Virtual 1280 1024
Kano: good to know
Kano: is agpmode correct?
kdas: ok back to rebooting the crap out of my computer why i hack attack this stupid EG
kdas: thanks for help and post if there is any updates
Kano: i have got no time for this
Kano: you could try kanotix from usb if you like to
Kano: links are on left side of kanotix.com
Kano: just dd or use image-writer
Kano: like moblin
kdas: debian based i assume and is it squashed fs?
Kano: yes, based on debian live
Kano: only a few patches against this
kdas: you need to switch up the website to have a big button that says DOWNLOAD HERE
Kano: haha
Kano: maybe get glasses
kdas: why can i only find the preview release?
Kano: because thats the only one there ;)
Kano: in 3 variants, 32 bit only, 64 bit only or both in 1 iso
kdas: oh so thorhammer is not avalible anymore :(
Kano: it is not deleted, but outdated
kdas: do you know by any chance what gets called first in EG ?
kdas: i can't find any init
Kano: i guess it works differently
kdas: well it has standard init.d
Kano: the ce "resumes" from a memory image
Kano: because it needs >= 256 mb ram
Kano: which is called kernel.bin
kdas: i see...
kdas: and there is no way to replace that with somehting else i assume
Kano: i think somebody added a squashfs image with kexec
Kano: and booted something else in a very early stage
kdas: dark(somehting or other) did not add a squashfs he just made it so that when you click on fake icon instead of booting to firefox/skype what ever it started the kexec
Kano: thats also possible
Kano: when the command is really short
kdas: yea
kdas: however i am trying to figure out how it starts up
kdas: ok i am going to go back to testing
