Phoronix IRC Log: 2009-12-11

bkero: wtf?
bkero: Perfect
Kano: hi michaellarabel , redeeman
Kano: today i got a new gfx card to play with
Kano: GeForce GT 220
Kano: of course i tested vaapi+vdpau. well it works with the usual codecs like mpeg2, mpeg4 avc and vc1
Kano: divx however has artefacts (195.22 driver)
Kano: vdpau works usually better than using the vaapi wrapper. with wrapper divx does not work at all and a ts stream with h264 does not work too
Kano: but basically a really interesting card...
GNU\colossus: Kano: is that a high-end or low-end model?
Kano: it replaces basically the 9500 gt series
Kano: a bit faster, but slower than 9600 gt
Kano: the 9600 gt replacement is the gt 240
Kano: slower would be g210/310 (nv has 2 names now)
GNU\colossus: I see. well, I'd like to have as little "horsepower" as possible, but still VDPAU-capable
Kano: 240 is currently the fastest then with dx10.1 chips. those should be able to decode 3d bluray from specs
Kano: the dx10 chips dont have got vp4
GNU\colossus: and what's the model name of the slowest? :)
Kano: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VDPAU
Kano: G210 is the slowest
Kano: nv rebranded it to G310 too
Kano: you see the table in wikipedia - vp4 has feature set c
GNU\colossus: hm, under 40 euro
Kano: dx11 chips most likely will have got the same engine
GNU\colossus: a passively cooled model
Kano: msi has it passively cooled yes, but do not try to play games with it ;)
GNU\colossus: it needs to be able to power mythtv's frontend
GNU\colossus: and possibly some emulators
GNU\colossus: not more
Kano: i hope the divx accel problems will be fixed soon. it is not really needed to use that with vdpau but it would be fine however
Kano: my test file showed artefacts
Kano: i patched the kernel to have hdmi sound but can not try due to missing tv
Kano: but i dont see it in the mixer, very curious
Kano: 2 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
Kano: HDA NVidia at 0xd0100000 irq 16
Kano: i see that however
Omar87: Hi there.
Omar87: Any Plone developers here?
chang: hello
chang: is anyone der ?
